Kasper Schmeichel's Performance in Recent Years

Recommended Posts

Regardless of anything else - there's little logic in replacing him. In the last 5 years, we couldn't have signed a better keeper without spending £20m+

And there demonstrably hasn't been an appetite to divert transfer funds away from more important positions - so it all seems a bit of a moot point.

Is he a good keeper that has and continues to serve us well? Yes.

Could we do better? Maybe.

Would it be worth it? Probably not.

Good Luck finding a replacement. You don't know what you've got till its gone. I'm going to enjoy him while he's here.

Hands down probably the best goalkeeper Rodgers has worked with as well as Vorm and De Vries in their prime.

Finding keeps who can play on the floor are absolute porn for me.

Watching that thinking about that full field Schmeichel to Vardy assist last season. Like I said pure porn.

Arguably the best keeper at the World Cup to one of the poorest keepers in the league... I smell a rat.

I don't think Kasper has been that consistent while he has been with us, so the op does have a point, but on his day he can deliver top class performances. I reckon he is looking in fine form at the moment, and long may that continue.

He's still one of the best in the world. Great shot stopper. His distribution can improve but most of the time it looks poorer than it is as he's trying a Hollywood pass but sometimes it works....eg. Arsenal at home last season.

One of the best in the world?

A keeper is only as good as the ten players in front of them. If the opposition were raining shots in on us and he was making lots of saves his stars would show he's making lots of  stops. And yet we could still lose 3-0 so that would skew the actual / predicted goals stats.

For me it's a bit like possession, or number of touches stat. We are led to think that lots of touches and high possession makes you a better player/team when that isn't really the case. It's just something  for the media and Fifa /ea sports to use/talk about to justify their jobs.  .

Shinjis overall stats were poor on paper but would anyone not have had him in the 15/16 team?  I'd expect Linekers starts showed his running and assists were very poor. Stats don't tell you everything and it's how you interpret them.

The best way to judge a players performance is to watch them!

And watching Kasper I don't think his overall  shot stopping is that bad especially 1on 1 situations.

But I do think he gets done too often with shots/ free kicks  outside the box that you can see are going to be in the top corner long before the attacking player has kicked it. And his eagerness to get us forward sometimes, especially if we are losing, has dropped in standard of distribution. Perhaps because it was usually so good before and now it's bang average?

But you can't fault his attitude, desire or professionalism even if his performances have dipped. He's still the currently the best keeper at the club and will gain us more points than he loses us.

Schmeichel will be 33 on Tuesday. As a GK I know he has a couple more years left in him but I suspect we will sign a young upcoming keeper in the summer for the inevitable decline of Kasper (see Cech, Casillas etc).

Jamie Vardy position is another that needs addressing very soon.

Maybe get someone a tadge taller and more combative to dominate the area.  I am happy with Casper yet we need to see the way things are going...
