Ian Holm - aged 88.

What a career! I honestly thought he was much younger than that.

Great actor! Especially as Bilbo Baggins in LOTR, also enjoyed him in Fifth element & from hell.

I put him in the same class of actors such as Ian Mckellen & Patrick Stewart.

Were loosing one big name a day at the moment, who's next???

I thought he'd already died tbh.

Me too - I remember when they were filming The Hobbit films that they'd had to film outside of New Zealand for the first time in the Tolkein saga because Christopher Lee was too old to travel and Ian Holm was too ill (he had Parkinson's).

I still can't get over that he was 88! That puts him 10 years younger than Christopher Lee, 8 years older than Ian McKellen and 9 years older than Patrick Stewart. For me he is indeed in that category of classic English actors, as well as Bob Hoskins.

Doesn't feel like 2016 levels yet tho.

Looking back ages.....I remember him being excellent as a rather creepy, stuttering Lewis Carroll in "Dreamchild" and an uptight, sensible partner to the doomed Ruth Ellis in "Dance with a stranger".

Don't expect many on here to know him but depression finally got the better of Reckful.

Ended up having a bit of a meltdown and asking his ex on twitter to marry him, she didn't even get time to answer.

So ****ing tragically sad. Hope he finds some peace on the other side.

Rip. :(

Ennio Morricone...RIP

Probably my all-time favourite film - and one of many wonderful scores by Morricone.

Sad news, though he was an old man and left us a lot of achievement to enjoy.
