The veteran duo signed one-year extensions under Rodgers last year and could do the same again this season, with their current City deals expiring in the summer. Morgan will be 36 at the end of the season, while Fuchs will be 34, but Rodgers believes their fitness defies their years, while their performances on the pitch and their influence off it makes them valuable assets. Asked if he would like the club to enter contract talks with Fuchs, Rodgers replied: “Most definitely. There’s a few of those guys, like him and Wes, who are very important for us, both on the pitch and off the pitch. Both of those guys are real guiding lights for our culture and what we’re creating here. "[Fuchs] was outstanding the other night [against Newcastle]. “When I came in I said to him that his role was to cover for Ben [Chilwell], but I also saw him as a third centre-half because of his profile, his quality. His view of the game is absolutely outstanding. He knows exactly how I work and that game idea. So every time he has been asked upon, he’s been first class. “He’s still very fit, he looks after his body. His legs are strong and he trains hard every day, so he’s someone we will have a discussion with.” On Morgan, Rodgers said: “From a playing perspective, he’s been amazing for me. He’s still fit, he’s still strong. "You can put him into games like away at West Ham, in the Premier League away from home, and he can stand up to the challenge. He’s been great. He’s one we would discuss, because he’s certainly one who could go on. “For me, in the time I’ve been here, he’s improved, in terms of his football idea, his positioning. While he’s doing that, he doesn’t lose what his game is about because I like defenders who defend. He heads it, he’s aggressive and he does his job.”

Nicolo Barella Posted 4 January 2020 Posted 4 January 2020 Very interesting. I wouldn't be opposed to Morgan as the 5th choice centreback next season, and definitely would take Fuchs as 2nd choice again next season. He can be an auxiliary centreback in a back three as well.

Justin’s versatility doesn’t make another LB a short term priority either. I did think the other day losing King, Morgan and Fuchs for good would be a blow to the team spirit and leadership amongst the squad

Sampson Posted 4 January 2020 Posted 4 January 2020 I know Fuchs already has plans to move to America with his family when he retires which is fair enough, but sad for us. I hope Morgan starts doing his coaching badges and stays on at the club after he retires. I also thought Huth was doing some off-the-field training, would love to see him involved some way too.
Pliskin Posted 4 January 2020 Posted 4 January 2020 Fuchs maybe harder to pin down, as he has frequently stated he wants to retire and play in the NFL as a kicker or something? Wes I imagine will have the red carpet rolled out for him, and rightly so. Absolute legend, give him the keys to the city.

Ric Flair Posted 4 January 2020 Posted 4 January 2020 As bit part players and what they give us in team spirit and experience, they are hugely important still. I'd loathe to lose that whilst things are going so well for us. A year ago I'd not have been too fussed as it seemed we needed a huge rebuild but what Rodgers is doing seems to have brought every ounce of experience, passionnand desire out of the legends at this club.

I can't help feeling our confidence in taking 2nd place so far this season and not wobbling over games in games we should win but don't (I.e Watford,Everton,Newcastle), is because we have players in the squad who have been there and done it against all the odds. Must instill a huge belief that anything is possible. The word legend is used far too often but both of those are Leicester legends.

AjcW Posted 4 January 2020 Posted 4 January 2020 I think if Morgan stays another year he has to move into a coaching role alongside it. Fuchs is an interesting one, he's been going to the US for the last two years entire family over there, business etc... perhaps it's time he did that and we gave him an amazing send off?

His football qualities are often, in my opinion, under valued and he definately has something about him in terms of presence and leadership which is hard to define and certainly lacking in many people who believe they have those qualities. Any 'project' based on certain values needs immovable objects that embody those values. Commitment, humility, team etc etc

filthyfox Posted 4 January 2020 Posted 4 January 2020 Morgan is a great option. Not past sell by yet, but obvs not a first choice any more. Fuchs, the same, but a bit more likely to play, BUT Big Wes is a leader. You dont have to be on the pitch to be a leader.
