No political discussion in this topic. That is complaining about a country, a politician, a party and/or its voters, etc

Every time I think about not touching my face I get an itch on it that I just have to scratch

Well I very cleverly get round touching my face by getting my other half or a friend, occasionally a complete stranger to scratch it for me.

Rumours of Corona in Hinckley. Lock up your mothers/sisters (same person).

Have you got a link or a source?

No new cases in Hubei, excluding Wuhan in the last 24 hours. That's a tick in the box for totalitarian regimes.

How do people still not get it? It spreads quickly, all the young/middle aged healthy people will probably be fine. But if we don't all act to try and control the spread we are putting the elderly and ill people in our lives at risk.

This kind of unsubstantiated fear mongering doesn't help. I have seen no official reports of it evolving and getting more aggressive. Same as whoever posted on here that they read it lasts for days on hard surfaces. This is all speculation and just leads to panic.

Keep washing your hands and be prepared to self isolate if necessary.

Errrr, that was England’s Chief Medical Officer. He says it lasts up to 3 days.

Edit: Discussed here. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/coronaviruses-how-long-can-they-survive-on-surfaces

This study quotes the “up to nine days” that I originally posted together with the advice from the Chief Medical Officer that I saw later. Please do not accuse me of scaremongering without getting your facts straight.

You don't need a link to know that everyone in Hinckley is related.

Says the guy from Barrow?

Well we've just received our work official guidelines.

With immediate effect all international and domestic airline travel is cancelled. That is work based though personal overseas travel is not encouraged.

Overseas business visitors cancelled or postponed.

I wouldn't call that unsubstantiated. Its not necessarily perfectly accurate either but I don't think it's particularly useful to not take seriously a genomic study from two decent life science departments. They've said there are two forms, the original S type and an L type that's had a mutation in the protein spikes which seemingly adapts it for humans transmission but that the L type has become less prevalent since the beginning of January, possibly due to China's extreme measures.

It's also more useful to explain why not to panic rather than just dismissing. A lot of people go all Hollywood with mutations when they are just par for the course and this virus has apparently been relatively stable. Also, they're as likely to be helpful to us as bad for us because the mutations that survive are usually the weaker forms because that's a viruses best way of surviving, part of the theory of why the original SARS petered out was because its mutations made it weaker.

And that is consistent with most corona viruses, it can last for a few hours or up to 9 days depending on conditions, but is easily removed with antibacterial spray. Most sources still say there isn't enough conclusive evidence.

Same as Kopfkino's point on mutation. Just dropping a "fact" with no context causes panic and confusion, whether intended or not. The message remains the same wash your hands, don't touch your face and go about your daily business and don't stockpile. The endless speculating and "information sharing" is just noise that distracts from the message and gets people needlessly worried.

Just been to sealed air in Kettering,I usually just barge the door open announcing my arrival to the drop testing division.

Went Monday and just had to confirm a few questions.Today more questions, forms and then took my temperature.

Obviously I asked if I needed to take my clothes off and bent over just to make them feel uncomfortable.

Very thorough.

my work,I had a company ask what our procedures were,by email. My MD just put none, and pressed send.10 minutes later they placed an order and asked when can we expect delivery.

Unfortunately this is somewhat of a scary virus, and any amount of corporal Jones‘s wandering around shouting “don’t panic” is unlikely to convince otherwise. People are entitled to know whatever information is available and take whatever action they deem appropriate to protect themselves, their families and friends.

Matt Hancock "totally made up" the claim that government is working with supermarkets. According to supermarket bosses. Who'd have thought a Boris Johnson government would be full of liars?

I genuinely hope that this terrible thing will bring about the realization from normal people that politics is just a sham, full of millionaires patting each others backs and filling each others pockets.

I've just been to Asda and I can confirm there's no need to panic.

Whilst the shelves of canned veg are extremely sparse, there's plenty of beer and pork scratchings.

Yeah. Wrong thread.

But you’re probably right - would much rather have Corbyn and Abbott leading the charge on this.  :crylaugh:

For what it’s worth - I’m not sure what more the Govt could do. I think they’ve been fairly proportional in their response.

If you missed it, check out PMQ’s on Wednesday...Boris came out of it pretty well and put Jezza back in his box. (Wtf is he still doing there, btw...it’s very eggy and slightly embarrassing).

Just been informed by my Dublin client that they're cancelling all the upcoming sessions I was due to deliver there this month.

Apparently they're banning 'all international travelers and visitors' from their premises for the time being.
