If Benkovic,is ok to go out on loan, surely he his fit and ready,to be kept here, and be given some Part of gametime....

I normally Don t question, any Player investment,I rather encourage...( And Bennet should be welcomed..!!!)...but just IMO,a  strange one!

Maybe, he can give,or come and suprise us like Evans did....

He pulls that blue Shirt with the foxes badge over his head..then he gets my Full support..

Benkovic need to play, not sit on the bench watching Evans and Soyunco!

It about developing Benkovic!

Could be worse Congerton could have went and got Marvin Compper lol

This is the guy he's signed everywhere he's been, signed for us a few years ago from RBL, 25k a week (a lot for us), played 1 game, in the cup against lower league opposition, looked horrific, was never seen again and took us two years to get him off the books.

Signing a player and hoping they wont play is gReAt BuSiNeSs - I've heard it all now.

How about going out, showing some ambition and spending money on a player good enough that you hope will play? We're supposed to be going for a Champions League place ffs.

Surely the market dictates a lot of this?

Cos football transfers don't happen in a vacuum where you just get what you want when you want with no limit to resources.

His role is to be better backup than Wes

I'm absolutely fine with this.

29yo and was first choice for Wolves last season and played 34 PL games for them and 11 PL games this season.

He's come here so Benkovic can get some game time for the rest of the season and hopefully will come back a player who genuinely pushes Evans and Soyuncu next season. Bennett will be decent cover for Evans and Soyuncu with experience of English football, PL football and at 29 is a great age.

This is it exactly, about as low risk as you can get for a short term loan to provide cover, experienced at EPL level, solid and dependable.

Some of our best signings in recent years have been the ones which have been underwhelming at first glance. Albrighton, Huth, Evans.

Some of our worst signings have been the ones who've been hyped up massively. Musa, Silva, Slimani.

These are the kind of transfers we've had decent success with in the past, and if it doesn't work out then it's no real loss. If I offered you a PL-experienced CB as backup for £5m then most people would snap my hand off as the going rate nowadays seems to be 8-figures minimum. The fact that we've managed to negotiate a loan-with-option (importantly, on our terms) and it allows us to send a promising youngster on loan to get gametime (for a fee!) is frankly an excellent bit of business.

He's not going to set the world alight (we don't think), but its a very solid signing and I don't see why people are complaining.

You'd better let Sheffield United know as they've already announced the signing of a player they wanted, when they wanted, for a club record transfer fee.

Also in a position where they only needed cover. But he comes in and keeps the first teamers on their toes, and if hes better he takes their place. Natural progression.

Brenda seems to want the option of 3 at the back.  He has the experience of playing that way with Wolves, so not a bad signing.  I don't understand what people were expecting as a back up defender?

No way we go 3 at the back if Benkovic is going out on loan. You can't reasonably sustain that formation with only 4 centre backs (we have 3 fit).

We are after a demiral ... a top class centre back prospect for next season but we can’t buy one now due to injury and availability ....

So confused by some of the responses (But not surprised)

the lad that’s gone to sheff United will expect to be first choice starter once he has adapted to the prem and their way of playing - we dont have a space for that at the moment.

Thought I'd chip in here.

You've got an excellent bloke here. Professional, committed and a good player. We expected nothing from him when we got him on a free from Norwich but he's been fantastic for us. Made himself first choice at RCB for ages thanks to his performances but then seemed to have fallen out of favour this season, as Nuno wanted Dendoncker playing there for his better ability on the ball. What Bennett is though is a tough, committed defender who is good in the air, and can still play the odd good pass. Plus he has loads of experience playing in both a back four and a five.

It's sad to see him go but he's probably about 6th choice at Wolves right now even though he has done nothing wrong whatsoever. He'll be a fantastic squad player for you guys. He never kicks up a fuss and always performs well when called upon.

£5m at the end of the loan is good business for us too, and absolutely nothing to you when you need cover in that position.

Get out of here with your sensible post !!!!

We're lucky Soyuncu and Evans have stayed fit this campaign. Bennett could easily find himself in the team if one of them picks up a knock. Good luck to him.

Decent cover is hard to find and he'll tide us over nicely for the rest of the season. Hopefully Benkovic gets a load of minutes under his belt at Bristol City ready to stake his own claim for us next season.

Every football club has space for a player that can expect to start if they prove themselves to be better than the players currently playing.

The market dictates the price, not our ambition or whether we need a player or not or whether we want to improve our squad.

Whose available in January? Club aren't willing to risk departures in case they can't replace. Every team in Europe still has a goal to achieve in January.

If they are available, are you going to be ripped off? Certainly.

If you spend that inflated figure is that going to be a detrimental effect on your future transfer deals? Yes, judging from Manchester United.

The target was clearly Demirah but before his injury, it would have cost the best part of £40-50 million. So we've worked our way through a list. Taken a look at prospects like the lad in Portugal, and then looked available PL defenders.

They went for Berge in the Summer but he rejected. So they've return again - not dis-similar to Fernandes to United.

Sensible business yet again from the club. We've waited till transfer deadline day to secure this which suggest that we have enquired about our other targets but do not feel value for money in any of those options. The club will not splash £60 million on a player when their valuation maybe a lot less. We are not desperate and will happily do our business in the summer (probably from abroad) and give a player pre-season to learn the ins and outs of the club/league.

This guy has experience in the league and can offer us cover for the next six months. It allows Benkovic to go out and get some much needed experience (and test that injury record by playing on a consistent basis) and Wes to take a bit of a step back in terms of cover.
