Wesley Fofana

Walk away. Puel can sell him for 20 next seasonlol

If that's what you think, why do you want him in the first place?  If he's the player we apparently think he is, Fofana'a value is only going to skyrocket.

Meanwhile, St. Etienne is clearly responding to Puel and is on top of the table after allowing 2 goals in 4 matches.  Just maybe they're more concerned about their own results this season than ours?

The way this is creeping up the better value Tarkowski is looking.

Im sure all of FT has already decided based on a few YouTube clips that Fofana is the better player, but if we can get Tark for just a few mill more it might be the way to go.

Tarkowski for 50 million? 🤣 No doubt tarkowski is good, but he's 30 million max imo. Both fofana and tah have much better upside and are a lot cheaper. Let's not buy someone for too much just because (ie united with Maguire)

Burnley want £50 million for him, we won't pay that much.

For all we know, he is Maldini  reincarnate, their right to set a price even in these turbulent times. Maybe the fact that Puel does not want to sell even at that price and their board is willing to go with him on this should tell us something.

Puel has nothing to lose .......he tells the owners he thinks they can get 50m next summer and if they can’t then he can blame lots of different things - it’s not his money he is playing with.  What he does know is that  ASSE will do better on the pitch (which keeps him in that job longer and possibly gets him a better one) if fofana stays there .... it’s self interest and the owners have to make a tough call. He may have called their bluff that he will walk out if they sell - ASSE are top of Ligue un after a good start - the owners may be scared to force him out at this point  .....

I disagree actually, not on the Puel self interest point as that’s clear, but another club has turned up and offered you 30m for one of your players who has only played a handful of games. It is not a big jump to imagine this player would be worth far more after a season. Their board must know this.

Edit: So Reading that back, maybe I am not disagreeing at all!! lol

Puel doesn’t give a shite about us. He doesn’t want to lose his player, knowing the chances are he’ll get a fraction of the fee to spend and probably can’t get a player as good to replace him.

Exactly, it's no different than us hanging on to a player because we rate him and don't want to fork out for a replacement at short notice. The Puel hate is getting a bit tiresome.

VVD was sh1te for soton for that half season before Liverpool came back with the extra dosh ........ fofana has no previous pedigree and if he loses his mojo over this season then they will struggle to get €20m next summer ...... and no one knows what covid will do to football finances by next summer ...... it’s a huge risk for them to take !

Think we walk away from this one for now, let the player get pissed off and hand in a transfer request. He sits out until January and the toxic atmosphere affects the squad and Saint Etienne sit 17th in the table, Puel gets sacked and we pick up Fofana for less than 30m euros as we originally bid.

We’ve been trying to sign him for two months ......they’ve got replacements lined up ......they have no idea that Man City won’t rock up with €50m ....it’s how clubs work - the longer they leave it the bigger risk they take that they can’t get their ideal replacement

It is a huge risk, seemingly one they are willing to take, but in turn we are looking completely desperate/gagging for it

When have we ever attempted to fork out 30m for what is tantamount an unproven kid in a lower quality league.

Youri clearly does not count, he did have previous plaudits/form, and perhaps is a good example of this broken player rhetoric.

Your point on VVD does not convince me as it is a reason rather than a contradiction for ASSE playing hard ball

If the shoe was on the other foot and we were not doing the same, we would be furious.

I'm not so sure they'd get much more than what we are offering next summer, even if he has a good season. Our offer is a record for one of their players and with the majority of French clubs struggling financially it realistically leaves just a few European countries able to buy him.

I cannot think of many defenders from the French league that have transferred for more than £30m, certainly nowhere near 50m euros. He'd need to be the stand out French defender and be seen as the best in their entire country. Now ASSE may believe all of that will happen but with a player who has shown how outspoken he can be, the character of him means it's no guarantee he will knuckle down and have the mega season thats required.

We cannot wait much longer now, frustrating but let them cut their nose off to spite their face.
