You ever see a kid do something blatantly wrong, get caught in the act, and then even while they're still doing it/have just done it, they blatantly deny it to an adults face?

Well, it looks like some adults like to do it too.

Barr is a bell of the highest order. Deep throat should be his nick name.

Do they hate themself, or call themself a murderer, cos of the actions of the British Empire or even modern British governments?

Do the Brits think that people should pay for what their forefathers did?

Racial tension in a country where you can own guns legally? What could possibly go wrong.

Not only can you own guns legally, you can organise yourselves into a militia and march around legally.  It is nuts.

Not sure how I feel about the Wiley thing, obviously he shouldn't have said what he said and is facing the consequences but not sure about the backlash against twitter/facebook.

I get it - they took ages to respond when they should be doing more.

I kept hearing about this Wiley/Twitter thing and thought it was Jo Wiley from radio 2 until I realised recently that it wasn’t her at all

Well now, apparently my thoughts on the matter were wrong - there is no overarching federal statute saying that police have to identify themselves to the people they are arresting (though smaller local-level legislation for such exists across various parts of the US).

Knowing that, the next question is...why the hell not, considering the way the US holds itself up as such a paragon of righteousness and due process?

And it seems like the answer (according to https://www.lawfareblog.com/can-law-enforcement-officers-refuse-identify-themselves) is rather perverse in that there is precious little legal precedent for events like we're seeing now, so there's no legislation based on precedent covering it! No-one expected the Spanish goons-in-unmarked-vehicles, clearly.

Hopefully there will be legal stuff in place regarding this soon.

Ok, I can get how the fuzz are allowed to take down someone who they think is a capital threat to them. But when it turns out that person really isn't and an innocent person dies, should the officer involved really be absolved of any kind of wrongdoing and face no punishment for it? Does deed really not matter in the face of intent, here?

That doesn't seem right.

This hasn't had a lot of coverage given how significant it could be. I've chosen the Buxton Advertiser's report at random from all the regional newspapers that have covered it, as the Guardian is the only national that has as far as I can see and I know how popular links to its website are with some of you:

Oh, hang on...

It's neck and neck again!

In all seriousness, this is pretty damn worrying. This is a pretty clear and blatant play to either suppress the vote and win at the polls, or mount a legal challenge and tie the thing up in the courts for a long time afterwards in the case of a loss. I suppose it should have been expected, but to see it actually laid out...I fear this is going to get rather messy before it is done.

Feels like it might get messy in the streets, too. Wouldn't put it past him to call his mentally unstable cult-like following to hit the streets bearing all of their arms if he does lose.

Biden simply has to win by a landslide for any chance of a clean transition of power imo. If it's something wafer thin close that man ain't going anywhere until the feds cart him out of the WH.

I don't think he'd even need to tell them to do so, they're on message and would likely do it anyway, tbh.

No matter how big a margin Biden might win by, this could still be used as an excuse to challenge the validity of the election all the way to the Supreme Court. And goodness knows where things go from there.

Would it be too much to say that we're actually approaching uncharted waters in this matter now? As far as I can tell, this kind of idea even being floated is practically unprecedented in US politics.

This all seems like how it must have felt in the 1930s with the rise of the dictators

Biden does have a laundry list of issues...but I really can't agree that he's on the same level of shitshow as Trump when he's looking to pull stunts like this tbh.

And that's saying nothing about the differences in the policies of the parties they represent when it comes to things like womens and LGBT rights, environmental concerns and general scientific policy, among others.
