Here is the data that apparently requires urgent action in Bolton, a tiny part of the NW...

There are 31 hospitalisations in the whole of the NW.  Population roughly 4.5 million.

The BBC continue to drive the hysteria.

E2Uul8UWYAcdYi7.png

Source?

Not with you. What "hysteria"? The BBC is irrelevant. There are currently 41 patients with Covid-19 at the Royal Bolton Hospital with eight in critical care following an increase in cases from 865 cases recorded in the week to 14 May, rising to 1,300 the following week. As the bank holiday approaches it is anticipated that pressure upon health services will increase. No "hysteria" simply frontline health workers under pressure...again.

A reminder of the guidance:

https://www.bolton.gov.uk/news/article/1164/how-bolton-is-responding-to-rising-covid-rates-and-what-we-can-all-do-to-help

Strikes me as quite odd, because the other day, this was the latest revelation on this thread...

Must be true...it got seven likes from members of a football forum

Nothing to do with "fear" or as you say "hysteria". The BBC simply reported events at a specific hospital in Bolton. What's your point?

I was in conversation with a London healthcare professional today and she was discussing the hospitals, NHS trusts and partnerships that are instituting contingency plans for another possible surge in cases. As I explained last month, this is a novel virus. Whilst vaccination will definitely reduce transmission, many have yet to receive their second shot and currently we simply don't know enough about vaccine escape. The more people worldwide that contract and spread the virus, the more that it will mutate...again, this is uncharted territory. As I also am at pains to emphasise, the delivery of the roadmap is subject to the continual flux and changing dynamic of a virus which is a global crisis. As we relax international travel alongside restrictions, which some of you claim to be ineffectual anyway, this could cause further setbacks. I do hope not, I  am on a phased return to the workplace from June 21st and it's really important to me to get back. Testing is essential, but the government message of "track and trace" omits "support and isolate" which is infuriating for the healthcare profession. Many still not engage in testing because as I explained to you last year, in LPNs and more deprived local economies/regions of the UK in the absence of support they need to go out and work. However, what is concerning and right now worrying virologists, immunologists, mass modellers, researchers and health security specialists about the admissions in Bolton is that they reflect the national average in vaccine uptake. Nothing to do with the BBC or scaremongering media. As usual, some on this forum presume to know better.

Talking of sensationalism, shall we return to the subject of Mike Yeadon and Ivor Cummings and their false claims that you posted last December regarding herd immunity? Oddly every time I bring it up you decline to discuss it.

What's an LPN?  Nothing on the google acronym list makes sense.

Have you got a link to an article that says admission reflect the national average in vaccine uptake?  (I assume that you mean that about 70% of admission have had a one jab, 40% 2 jabs, in line with vaccine averages.  If that's not what you meant, please correct me.)  But the articles I can find either quote Hancock's assertion that the unvaccinated are heavily over-represented, or that the information isn't in the public domain.

Need to find out one way or another, but if it did turn out that this escaped from a lab (though there's still evidence it wasn't deliberately manufactured) then it would be a disaster for a variety of reasons. Top of the list being Toupee45 and his cult of bigots having gone broken clock on this one (for entirely the wrong reasons) and using it to fuel additional bigotry.

Scary times if they manage to prove China did create it. Can't see happy reactions from around the world.

its all down to the tech war between China and the USA did you not watch the Paranoma episode on BBC last night.

This virus has something to do with that imo.

There is a state in China where you have to have a mobile phone with you at all times so they can track you, if not you will be prisoned.

This virus is all about tracking us.

It's not great for international relations, is it?

The more extreme elements in the US and elsewhere will get to push their racist Yellow Peril angle by likening the entirety of China to its government, and the Chinese will simply deny the whole thing while calling it racism and so likening any criticism of their conduct, legit or otherwise, to those same extreme elements.

And in the middle the moderates just wishing some folks wouldn't be so stupidly nationalistic won't get an ear in.

This is the one “conspiracy theory” that I always thought had legs. Seemed like a huge coincidence to have a level 4 bio lab near to where the outbreak apparently started, not to mention that they were apparently doing gain of function research on bat viruses.

Chris Martensen from the Peak Prosperity website did a rather good review of some research last year suggesting that differences between bat viruses and sars-ncov2 were too substantial to have evolved naturally. I’ve generally found his pandemic coverage to be spot on, though I haven’t been following recently. I suspect that the medical establishment regard him as a conspiracy theorist, though I personally think that this would be unfair.

Anyway, cock-up theory is more likely than conspiracy. If it did originate in that lab I’d think it much more likely that the research was not being done for sinister purposes, and  that it probably escaped by accident.

Fair enough, especially the last paragraph.

Not that it matters because no-one will actually do anything about super powers inflicting carnage on the world, bit like nuclear fallout from Chernobyl.

That's right, because those superpowers will brook no authority but their own. Perhaps there's a lesson in there somewhere.

NB. Chernobyl was a pretty clear example of incompetence rather than malice.

Yes it was, but it's just an example of there being naff all anyone can do about catastrophic events that occur in super power countries and the worlds population are just cannon fodder in the grand scheme of things.

You'll get no disagreement from me about the lack of accountability and how shite that is.

Just starting to worry a little bit about the rising case numbers. Gone up by about 50% in the last week or so.

Hopefully this is purely down to the economy opening up a little, and more social mixing happening.

On a selfish note, we have a holiday booked in Madeira in mid-July, and some countries (France and Spain I think) now requiring 7 days self-isolation when arriving. Appears to be due to the prevalence of the Indian variant.

Or even down to the fact that someone is feeding you false figures?  You can see from the government daily update that case numbers have gone up by 18%.

Would be a tad harsh to label Peak Prosperity Man a conspiracy theorist. His first six months worth of blogs suggested quite the opposite.I think we have discussed him before.Unless he’s turned full circle.Like you I haven’t seen any of his stuff in yonks.

The last I read Spain are welcoming tourists from the UK with no tests nor isolation, they are desperate for the tourism income.

I'm really split with this, I really want my children to be able to visit in the summer, but everyone over here, at least where I live, has worked so hard to get the numbers down and really followed the rules, the idea of a load of non compliant Brits worries me a bit!
