Elon Musk.

Honestly got caught up in the hero worship at the start because SpaceX were (and are) doing things that government space programs should have been doing for the last fifty years and he made it happen quickly and on a budget by comparison, and he inspired those same government space programs to get their arses in gear. So, obviously, top bloke for pushing something so necessary so well.

However, recent times have proven that he's arrogant, egotistical and willing to lash out when people don't stroke his ego, which has a detrimental effect on what needs to be done. Bloody shame, really.

I think the entire topic just shows that we shouldnt believe what we read in the media.

Judging people by a few words and a whole lot of PR is pointless.

Mark McGhee. I'm over it now.

This one cut me deep as a kid. I recently went back to some of my old programs from that season and I had gone back through them all after he left and I'd used a black felt tip pen to cover over his face on every single page he was on, EVERY SINGLE ONE.

I think I'm nearly there now though.

Theres no such person. Keith Lemon is a character played by Leigh Francis. He originally did the C4 show Bo Selecta where he mocked various people like Craig David, Michael Jackson, Elton John, George Michael etc (Francis apologised this week for imitating black people back then). He also played a character in the show called Avid Merion.

When that ended he created Keith Lemon, which he seems to have been doing for years now. I would say Through the Keyhole was quite late after the creation of Lemon, he'd been on ITV a while before that, doing things like Celebrity Juice.

You very rarely see him as Leigh Francis, his true self, which I've always found quite odd. He basically plays out his life as this character Keith Lemon, not as in an actor playing a part, like Steve McFadden playing Phil Mitchell most days in Eastenders, but as an actual person. Whether he's presenting his own show, acting, or being interviewed, its always as Lemon. I'd be interested to see a proper interview with Francis rather than him hiding behind a character.

I know that that's not his real name; forgot what his real name was until you mentioned it here.

Never found any of his shows, from Bo Selecta (didn't realise he was part of that until these Black Lives Matter protests started) to Through The Keyhole, funny when I was younger - but actually find them quite funny/humorous now.

Can imagine him being more down-to-earth, sensible and friendly in real-life, away from his popular on-screen persona which he is known for.

Had recently watched a video of him apologising for 'mocking' black people on Bo Selecta, and that quite changed my opinion on him as a person (even if it was for a few minutes).

Don't think his fashion-sense had changed much, though, mind..lol

Well Leigh Francis is probably a completely different person to Keith Lemon, so I can see why it would change your view of him. That's why I said I'd be interested in seeing Francis interviewed at length rather than as Lemon, as we never see the real man. I find Lemon annoying, but he is just character, so I find it hard to judge Francis based on that.

Morrissey. Mental to think how someone whose lyrics had such a profound impact on so many people's lives could hold the views he does.

Too many Australian former cricketers to name, though Warne still comes across as a bit of a helmet.

Used to like Richard Branson years ago when I naively believed the image was a reality. Probably the only person who I had a lower opinion of after reading their book.

And to add to that, people do also change. I would hate for anyone to judge me now based on 18-23 year old me. Which makes it more crazy when you see things like a tweet from a kid brought up 10 years later as if it’s supposed to judge the character now.

Yeah definitely. What's the old saying attributed to many different people - show me the man at 30 who says he's the same person he was at 20 and I'll show you a man who's wasted a decade of his life.

Every 5 years or so I tend to think I'm a completely different person to I was then - a couple Iof years I might feel a bit different but 5 years previously I always feel like a completely different person. I notice it in my family who I'm around all the time are different people to they were then too.

I feel for younger people growing up in an age of social media where their previous lives are all permanently out in public.

Kieron Dyer, didn’t like him as a footballer,  as in my eyes he reflected everything I loathed about some modern day players (flash, big headed, obnoxious) but really grew to like him when he appeared on I’m a Celebrity and became one of Lady C’s few allies.

Dyer released an autobiography last year or so-  it is on my reading list so it may be worth a read.

Ricky Gervais. My initial opinion of him in The Office was he was a funny and clever writer. Having watched interviews on Jonathon Ross my opinion changed to thinking he was a bit of an up-himself knob and subsequently having watched The Late Show in the USA and interviews he's done since and some of the things he's said on social media, my opinion now is he's a self opinionated, rather arrogant, unpleasant individual who thinks he is funnier and cleverer than he actually is. A bit like a male version of Lily Allen.

I think you have to accept Ricky Gervais as a very talented comedy writer and performer but an arsehole in real life. It's quite a feat to create likeable sympathetic characters yet be unable to hide your true unpleasant nature.

It is probably true of a lot of talented people, you have to have a certain level of arrogance and self belief to be successful in a new way, because a lot of people would be crushed by the general resistance to change. Corden is the same this insane level of unjustified self belief has propelled him into a really successful career despite being an unpleasant person. He is a talented comedy writer and performer but to become that successful in the US is just crazy.

I guess the same applies for Elon Musk, there is no way he should have even dared to try and achieve the things he has done, you must almost need a personality defect to try the things he has.

Certainly a genius of our time, but that doesn't mean he isn't a ****, he almost certainly wouldn't be doing what he is doing now if he was a pleasant humble person.

Genius often comes with a certain madness.

In the opposite vein of Musk, Bill Gates has really grown on me in recent years into someone I really respect now. Mostly since I've watched some documentaries on him and the Bill & Melinda foundation and how he's using his wealth to try and combat diseases.

Raheem Sterling - absolutely hated him when he was younger, running around like an idiot and generally seemed to be doing the flashy young footballer thing. He was good but he wasn't Next Big Thing good. Cut to a few years later and the hounding he's had in the press, plus finding out about his dad's death. He's kept a pretty low profile. No silliness. No messing about. Just seems an honest lad.

It's almost like he was just a kid, had every little thing he did reported on in a way white players didn't have to put up with, and then he grew up.

Hated Ian Wright as a player. Liked him a lot more as a pundit as he seems to have a genuine love for the game and was really positive about our league win. Starting to go off him again now...

I can fully understand why people take against Gervais and Corden, but I'm not really convinced I know who they really are. I suspect that some of the bad feeling towards them is that they get away with their perceived arrogance/over-confidence and it seems unfair.

Yeah I find that strange. I think that's one of the reasons why Marr probably doesn't want to work with him now.

I think with Gervais people don't understand his point about the subject and the target of a joke being seperate things, so they believe he is this awful person who jokes about very sensitive subjects and they get upset about it.

Nothing to do with that for me, his sense of humour is about all I can tolerate about him, when I went to watch frankie Boyle he said 'I love animals, nearly everyone loves animals but there comes a point where things get a bit... Suspicious, Ricky Gervais.'

Morrissey definitely, still think he's incredibly talented but my what a total nob.

Amen!

I went to see him a couple of years ago and the crowd was still almost exclusively liberal, I think most are the same in that they still idolise the music and what he was.

I find the funniest thing about Musk is that he doesn't just come across as a twat, but he almost comes across as stupid. Evidently he isn't in many ways, and is extremely intelligent in a few, but there you go.

Yeah Tyson Fury is mine.

Could not stand the bloke but after he beat Klitschko, you couldn't help but think fair play to the guy, he really walked the walk.

A lot of the stuff he came out with was due to him being thick and whilst I don't know if he's really as nice as he lets on, I got to meet him briefly and he was very polite then.

There's no denying that he used to come with some atrocious stuff that he's either been educated on, or has learned to keep his mouth shut on.

Also Fred from First Dates used to do my head in, but he's actually a good bloke. I used to like Gino's cooking shows but then he turned into this caricature that would pronounce words wrong on purpose and has dined off that. Painfully unfunny.

Robbie Savage I can't make my mind up on. He was obviously a tosser as a player and has done some poor things but after listening to him, I think he means well enough, again he's just not very intelligent. He's refreshingly honest on the podcast he did with Flintoff and Matthew Syed and actually is a good listen when he's not doing his shitty 5Live banter.
