Got to hope West Ham beat VARchester Utd and Liverpool best Chelsea now and hopefully we can grab either a cheeky win or draw last game, but we need someone clinical to take their chances we need Brendan to step up and choose his best team and formation and we need our team to look at that sign above the tunnel on the way out onto the Pitch ‘ FOXES NEVER QUIT ‘ and adhere to that sentiment and to also give their all push for the win try give us a slim chance of CL football but hey we’re in Europe so not all’s lost ?

I still think the score flatters spurs. Don't get me wrong we didn't deserve to win but we had enough chances to atleast get a couple of goals.

Hopefully that is the last we see of Bennett playing for us. I said it at half time but it is criminal to let footballers with that much quality onto their favoured feet. I dred to think what he would be like against Greenwood and Rashford etc

I hate the fact that we have turned into a team that as soon as we concede it almost feels like game over. That certainly never used to be the case.

It all feels so similar to how it was under puel at times...lots of passing and good bits of build up play but with no end product. You always know we are good to concede a couple too.

I have mixed feelings about today. Going to Spurs in a high pressure game, getting a result we really needed and making things easy for ourselves was too good to be true. We got cut to shreds on the break - tbf Justin was unfortunate for the first goal but the second goal was criminal. Another corner straight into the first man, we lose control in midfield and then we're in trouble. The third goal was a class finish but it's made too easy for him. Rule number one when against Son and Kane is don't let them cut inside. We've seen it over and over again, you know what happens next. As soon as it went to 2-0 it was obvious we wouldn't get anything from the game.

Beyond that I felt we did as well as could be expected with what we had available today. We were bright in patches and created some decent chances. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. We weren't awful and we've certainly played worse since the restart against weaker opposition. I felt 3-0 did flatter Spurs a little bit too, but they were ruthless.

The sad reality of it is, whether it's out of our hands our not by the time the game starts, we'll probably produce another similar performance next weekend against United. I have absolutely zero confidence in us to beat them on presenting showing. We've not beaten them for about 6 years and look everything we don't at the moment. We're not quite there, especially with some massive players missing. We're absolutely crawling over the line. Fortunately we found one great team display against Sheffield United and can play the United game knowing we cannot lose our Europa League spot. All I want to see next week is us have a go at them and really push to make any opportunity we might have left for Top 4 count. Then we turn our attention to building for next season.

How can we do that with the defence we’re going  to play ?  Maybe an extra man with wilf to pressure the transition in the middle of the pitch but that just ceded space and time  elsewhere .....

Everton fans have been left baffled by a decision to allow Tottenham's opening goal against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs took the lead against the Foxes in the sixth minute of the match when Heung-Min Son's effort was deflected past Kasper Schmeichel by James Justin for an own goal.

However, when the shot was taken, Harry Kane was stood in an offside position between the goalkeeper and the ball. The goal was allowed to stand after a VAR review.

But, that reminded Evertonians of a certain incident involving them earlier in the campaign.

In the last minute of the Blues' draw with Manchester United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal-bound effort was deflected off Harry Maguire and into the back of the net, with Gylfi Sigurdsson in an offside position in front of David de Gea.

That goal was ruled out by VAR, with a statement later reading : "In the 91st minute of Everton v Manchester United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal was disallowed following a VAR Review for an offside offence against Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Same with the West Ham goal against Chelsea

What’s clear about this football club is that there’s no belief.

The manager doesn’t think we’re good enough for top 4 despite being in the top 4 since October.

The players don’t think they’re good enough having previously thought they were a lot better than they were. You can say what you like about our performance today but not one player took the game by the scruff of the game and wanted to turn the result around.

The fans definitely don’t think we’re good enough. Myself included.

Need the season over and done with and huge investment in the squad in the summer.

That's what I'm saying. Half a team out injured or suspended, a brilliant goal and a flukey deflected goal away at spurs but yeah sack the manager we are the worst team ever loan Barnes back out he's awful its all Bennetts fault.

I don't want that! I like Barnes. Rodgers is fine as long as he doesn't pick up a wage for the last 6 months. Bennett also fine as long as he's back in Wolverhampton by morning.

Just need West Ham to pull a result out the bag for us to help us a little bit. Always a chance if they have Antonio playing well. I don’t get why grey hasn’t started today over Barnes as he is in more form than him and feel for nacho as I don’t think he will get many chances here while Rodgers is. Need a lot of new faces in the next window freshen it up a bit as we can not go into any game next season relying on wes and Bennett. West game manage and unlikely point in the week could make United a bit nervous coming into the last game against us. Hate spurs

Every goal was avoidable if we'd given away a free kick to stop the counter. All the best teams do it. Ndidi should have chopped Kane to stop the first. Thomas should have fouled after losing the ball to stop the 2nd. A yellow card in either case is much better than conceding a daft goal.

We're too nice and very naive.

Like you say, I'd switch to a back 4 and bulk the midfield out a little bit more. Might not be a bad game for Hamza? Justin and Thomas up against the pacey wide players United have will be a test but I'd rather that than watch them run the channel in between the wing-backs and Bennett and stretching us all afternoon. Whether he'll change shape or not for the final game is another question altogether.

It's a gamble either way. Unless United cock up at West Ham, we have no barrier in terms of points or goal difference and it's out of our hands for the first time since September. We know our attacking players can hurt people even if we're uncertain about our remaining defensive options. We have no injuries at that end of the pitch so perhaps prioritising our strongest area of the pitch in a must win game makes more sense. I'm at the stage where I'd rather roll the dice and set the team up to have a go than produce another performance like today, which whilst it wasn't bad is more likely than not to get punished by a good side.

Anyway, Sky seem to think we have Soyuncu back so surely that'll help the defence lol

Season over. Getting exactly what we deserve.

Today wasn't the main reason - it was an inevitability following previous bottlings.

Attack wise we were ok, let down more by our defence who were all over the place and showing their ages.

One of the things I can't accept is just how atrocious our corners are. We had so SO MANY as they were all ****ing useless. Whoever is coaching corners or set pieces needs binning, if we cant beat the first man go short. I feel like I am going mental, every time we get a corner the commentators lick their lips as they watch our big blokes jog up but we rarely beat the first man then we get ****ed on the counter.

I am honestly terrified about how we will fare vs Utd. Rodgers clearly shits the bed about anyone "bigger" and will show them enough respect to make us 3 nil down at half time again.

We are where we are because we dropped 2 points against Watford, 2 points againsts Brighton and 3 points against Bournemouth.  We should beat the bottom teams.  Losing to the upwardly mobile is not such a shock.  Losing today was partly down to a shortage of first choice players, not that the substitute players let us down, some bad luck and some still getting to know you issues.  Hopefully, the team can beat United and do the biz but, if not, wtf, we are still there, punching above our weight.

it’s vital we win next week

it wasn’t vital we won today

The only silver lining I can see - by losing today, at least Rodgers can see that there is no way he can play the same side, especially at the back. Had we eeeked our a draw, then we may have started the same side next weekend and got tonked !

it’s a very thin lining .........

I don't actually think we played that bad (weird for me to say that), they just took their chances.

Serious investment needed in the summer, God knows how we'll cope with European games as well as domestic ones.

Absolutely . Flying back from Azerbaijan on Thursday night for a prem game on Saturday is going to be quite wearing

I know not everybody likes xG but an interesting illustration of the fact that the performance wasn’t that bad is that not only was our xG better than Spurs, it was higher at the point they went 3-0 down.

This is really unusual - often teams will lose with a higher xG because the pattern of the game changes and the leading team sits back. Today Spurs sitting back actually didn’t do much for our xG at all.

We were pretty unfortunate to go in behind at half time based on the way the game panned out. Going in 3-0 down was very unfortunate but that’s what happens when things aren’t going for you.

It’s not happening next week. United will win by a few goals against a West Ham team who will have the adrenaline drained from them. If we do manage to win, it will be by the odd goal - we’ll finish fifth on goal difference. There is Chelsea of course but I think the champions league boat has sailed today. Disappointing given where we were but we are not a champions league team yet.

My feeling is the premiership, followed by a reasonaable seaon ,especially in europe and this reasonable season falling off at the end has given us overexpectations. A lcfc does not become one of the big clubs within a few seasons. We have a more than reasonable manager, an excellent striker in Vardy and several good players but still woefully short. There maybe a wonderful manager who miraculously appears from Nowhere.but I doubt it.

Meanwhile lets  enjoy our wonderful successes and be grateful for them and hope for more miracles. Even the Man us, liverpools, arsenals and tottenhams have had many recent lean seasons; lets be gratelful for what we have. After all we ara nearer to a big club than we've ever been, maybe only a few million and a couple of players away..

the man utd bias argument is embarrassing to make.

sure the press are biased but i  don't buy the VAR nonsense, or the PL is biased toward them.

how many times did we get lucky in the first half of the season, how many times did we beat a team who were a man down?

That’s the most frustrating part for me today that we’ve potentially blown the opportunity to simply beat Man Utd and qualify. Even 1 goal back would have made a huge difference in that regard but we didn’t look arsed.

I think the first thirty minutes were summed up in three actions:-

- Son scoring a goal via a heavy deflection. Kane offside position - don’t think it matter personally yet Man U and Chelsea have benefitted from similar disallowed goals.

- Lloris flapping at a cross to no punishment.

- Lloris then redeeming himself with an incredible save from Perez.

Frustrating as ****

Like Jose has said in his interview. Today we got out thought. BR got tactically an ass whopping. Let's hope he sees this and perhaps comes back to the basics a bit and perhaps some humility. Give the players who deserve the chance to start. Don't have your "favourites" and be a bit more tactically astute.

Didn't watch the second half, how bad was it? I hate Bennet with a burning passion. Perez and Thomas were great offensively, shame 2 of the goals can be partially attributed to Thomas but I choose to blame Ryan "Sunday League" Bennet. I am unhappy to be vindicated about him, and about Spurs' pace giving them an easy win.
