Not sure about this. The whole thing seems a bit dodgy imho.

Barcelona have a history of this kind of thing, it seems a way to artificially inflate their accounts, whether it’s more that just a bit dodgy is yet to be seen

Considering the corrupt state of the (business) world I could careless what games they want to play as long as we get our man.......

for a decent price and the financial flexibility to strengthen the squad further. TBH we all have our heads in the sand when realizing the amount of exploitation it takes to generate the cash to play for these players. Such is the state of the modern world.

The Jean Clair Todibo thing is another weird one by Barcelona. They were due to sign him on a free, they brought it forward (presumably paying to do so), he played for a year, did well, then went on loan to Schalke (Still there) for a loan of 5m and a final payment of 25m. Seems odd. Would guess it was to meet some financial problem.

Its like a mystery novel. The ups and downs. The bit players. The twists and turns of the plot. DRAMA! So much more interesting than listening to incessant whining about the players, manager, why the Training facility isn't done yet and how we should fine the GC. Sometimes I wish the transfer window could go on forever. Its Fun. So far. Until next week.

We know for a fact we lose 14m in matchday revenues alone from the Premier League plus additional revenue shares from cup games. Then take into account missed revenue from the club shop on match days too, etc.

Sorry to pick a nit, but if you are talking about £15M in PL prize money, that is a hit to broadcast revenue, not “matchday” (gate receipts and hospitality).  In the most recent accounts, total matchday revenue was only £15M.  So if we end up having lost 5/16 of 2019/20’s due to COVID, that’s less than £5M.

In the Championship, matchday, commercial (sponsorship) and TV were almost equal thirds of LCFC’s total revenues.  Six years later, matchday is now less than a tenth.  People seem unable to catch up to this fact.

A consistently full KP is part of the health of the franchise.  Club brass clearly feel that a committed, long-term STH base is better than squeezing every last pound out of the KP a la Spurs.  However, butts in seats cannot finance squad improvements.

To afford players at Trincao’s level, we need to maximize broadcast money from the PL and European leagues.  Even if the KP were expanded by a quarter, that’s only enough added income to buy one Ghezzal every few years.*

* unless the new seats come with “enhanced” features/prices.

In all likelihood they won't take in much at all, if any from gate receipts next season. They made £16.7m in the Champions League season (19 PL games plus cups and 5 home CL fixtures), so overall you can probably expect we could lose £15-20m on gate receipts alone before full capacity stadia return. Add in additional costs for the training ground move, the spiralling costs of player testing, PPE, COVID secure requirements, and then the rebate. The total rebate is £330m for the league which is about £17-18m for a club like ours (we'll pay more because we finished higher) but some is delayed until next summer.

Now granted, some of this has been offset by our strong league position this season which has helped boost PL prize money and also will see us hopefully get at least £10m from the Europa League. But the club will have budgeted for those increases anyway and some of that may have been lost in Rodgers' big new contract so it's difficult to properly assess where they are at.

I should think overall we are in a better position than most - we only spent £10-15m net last summer and if John Percy is to be believed the Maguire money is still available. But considering it could be £30-40m of a hit from COVID (never mind the early solidarity payments to the EFL + charity donations), they will probably have had to make some adjustments to targets e.g. give Mendy a deal rather than sign Carvalho/Diallo etc.

Agree nice to be linked with £45 million players from Barcelona but would be happier if we saw real progress with targets from Brentford or Bournemouth as time is short!

This made me laughlol

Keep your Barcelona players and let us sign players from the Championship!lol

An obligation and option both have risks.

If you're obliged to sign him he might be crap but you're still stuck with him, but if he's quality then you're guaranteed to sign him.

If it's only an option the player can say no to you if he is very good and wanted by bigger clubs, but obviously if he doesn't fit the club avoid paying the fee.

We got lucky with the market with Tielemans that no one was as keen as us to get him, but there is always the risk of being stung with an option like Spurs beating Southampton to Alderweireld.

Surely it’s better for us to do it that way anyway?

Not really, Rodgers would be better spending time developing a player he has brought rather than a raw talent for Barcas benefit, that at the end of the 2 years that they either keep or his value has shot up and bigger teams getting involved
