Leicester City will enter the 2020-21 Carabao Cup on either September 22 or 23 with a third-round tie - but there will be big changes to the competition.

The biggest change is that two-legged semi-finals will be replaced by a single tie and the first four rounds are scheduled to take place on consecutive weeks.

Round one fixtures are scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 5, but due to that weekend being an international weekend, ties may be played on alternative dates.

While the EFL have also confirmed that rounds two, three and four will be played on consecutive midweeks dates starting on either the 15 or 16 of September.

Premier League sides will enter the competition in round two or round three if they are competing in a European competition.

The dates for the 2020/21 Carabao Cup are as follows:

Round One - 5 September 2020 (alternative dates may apply)

Round Two - 15/16 September 2020

Round Three - 22/23 September 2020

Round Four - 29/30 September 2020

Round Five - 22/23 December 2020

Semi-Finals - 5/6 January 2021 (tie to be played at the venue of club drawn out first)

Final - 28 February 2021

The EFL have also confirmed that the draw for the first round will take place on Sky Sports News on Tuesday, August 18, with a time still to be confirmed.

While as per the previous two seasons, the first round draw will be divided into a northern and southern section but sides will remain unseeded.

So the third round is 22/23 Sep, we'll have played two league games (12 and 19 Sep) before then.

Does that mean Evans serves the final game of his ban in the League Cup third round and therefore is available for the third PL game on 26 Sep?

Yeah would have thought so.

Can we ask to start in the first round?

Controversial opinion, but think they should scrap this competition.

It's lost its identity to the top clubs a while ago now, and only appeals to those in power divisions.

Players & clubs through the 4 leagues...will think differently...

This season every small penny will count..

Oh wow so we are actually in this now?

I think that's a good thing. We threw away a golden opportunity to make the final this season, and of all the cups we are involved in, is probably the one we have the best chance of winning. Let's get Vardy, Kasper and Evans at least one more trophy please!

Normally want us to take the cups as seriously as possible but given the number of games in such a short turn around I’d understand putting out heavily rotated squads in the league cup. Not the FA cup though, we should go strong whenever we can.

Other than Birmingham in 2011 and Swansea in 2013, the League Cup has been by the top 6 clubs In the last decade. Not even Spurs have managed to win it.

So the top clubs still take it seriously enough to win it every year.
