It’s the hope that kills you, the guy we should have bought when Mahrez left

...lovely player!!!

Looks great, great skills, composure and drive, a massive upgrade we have at the moment. There are a few incidents where he could just go down but stayed on his feet and the thought of buying the foul never crossed his mind. So a difference to Maddison who looks for the opportunity to get the foul instead of staying on his feet to supply an opening.

If we picked Thauvin, Diallo and a suitable Centre back, we would have improved our team by a sizeable percentage.Anything else would be icing on a cake.

Just catching up on this. Not seen anything of him since his first stint in the prem. This fella seems to be a popular prospect on this thread but why was he such a flop at Newcastle and what gas he done since to convince everyone that he will turn it around with us?

I think in his defence he only made 13 appearances for them in around 3 or 4 months and then went straight back to Marseille.

A good indication would be that in his first stint at Marseille he scored 13 in 69 appearances before signing for Newcastle and in his current stint he's got 38 in 69 with assists on top of that. Definitely a clear improvement in that respect.

Check out his stats from 2018/19, astonishing. Mahrezesque stats from 15/16

I wouldn't even say he was a flop at Newcastle, he only got to play a total of 568 minutes in his time at Newcastle before going back to Marseille, he never got a chance and started just 4 league games for them

His last 5 seasons

15/16 - 1 goal and 2 assists in 568 minutes of game time in all competitions at Newcastle

16/17 - 15 goals and 13 assists in 43 games in all competitions

17/18 - 26 goals and 17 assists in 54 games in all competitions

18/19 - 18 goals and 9 assists in 37 games in all competitions

19/20 - Managed just 30 minutes this season due to an ankle injury, however he did make a cameo appearance in the only game Marseille played in after the break so hopefully he is past the injury

Thanks for this. Looks more than promising

He’s the exact type of winger/wide forward that this team has been crying out for since mahrez left... But the bad news is that it won’t happen and we will have to deal with a rotation of Albrighton/Barnes/gray in Europe this season lol

2017/18 stats are just obscene, only 2 or 3 other wingers in the world have achieved that in the last decade or two. Absurd.

Wasn't he garbage at Newcastle 🤷‍♂️

2015/16 season, where McLaren was manager for most of the season which saw the club eventually relegated.

Seem to remember something else rather special happened during that season as well... yet I can’t put my finger on what exactly 🤷🏻‍♂️

So was Georginio Wijnaldum. In that same side. Managed by Steve McLaren and Alan Shearer, what chance has anyone got?

He played 16 games in total, can anyone remember Vardy’s first 16 games here?

Surely as fans of this club, when we won the league with a bunch of misfits and journeymen, after nearly being relegated the season before, we can get that players can improve quite quickly with the right club.
