Great news if true.

Surprised I couldn’t find a Slimani thread in the Transfers Forum, mods please merge if I’ve missed this!

Probably a loan, no chance they can afford his wages?

I’m thinking that we probably won’t be getting £30 odd million for him! Still just getting his wages off the books would be a bonus, such a pity it never worked out for him here.

Hopefully not a loan.  Small Fee and his wages saved, and that will do nicely s'il vous plait.

Please let this happen. We just need to cut our losses here and put this signing down as a bad experience.

Silva and Ghezzal next please.

This would be a decent move for Slimani. Guaranteed Champions League group stage football and he'd get a lot of game time. With the likes of Camavinga, Raphinha and Terrier playing around him, I also think he'd score a lot of goals for them with the chances they'd create. Hopefully he moves on permanently this time and we can recoup a fee of some sorts.

It's possible that it's a permanent and we agree to make up the difference in wages until his contract with us runs out next year.

Pay up his contract and give him a free transfer or use him are the only viable paths in my opinion.

We never adapted out game to suit his style unfortunately.

A useful player, similar to the likes of Andy Carroll.

Can you imagine if we'd have asked Steve Howard to press?!?

This is the most likely option after yet another loan. Problem is we would end up paying around 75% of his current wage until the contract runs out as I can't believe they could afford to pay him very much.

Just need to get him off the books really.

Yeah. We could still be paying a lot of his wages, but beggars can't be choosers.

This time next year our most expensive mistakes will finally be off the books.

They have Champions League football this season and he is on the final year of his contract. I could see them buying him for 5-10m and paying all of his wages. That said given Coronavirus, a loan is the most likely outcome.

I would imagine we would probably ask for a slightly higher transfer fee from Rennes to try to offset the % of wages we will have to cover compared to someone who would pay his full wages

Need to give him away in lieu of the new club paying his wages in full. Another loan and he will walk for free anyway this time next year.  As Dacia would say ‘ Rudders you do the maths’

Surely that's roughly the same thing? You either give him away now to avoid paying a percentage of his last years wages or you loan him out and his loan club pays a percentage of his wages for a year then he leaves.

I’m in no position to argue with @themightyfinbut after his season at Monaco I’d be disappointed if we didn’t get a fee for Slim. Was hoping for €10m.

But we have to get his wages off the books, him and about 8 others!

The sort of clubs that will be after him will all be skint due to the pandemic, would be amazed if anyone paid any money for him, best scenario as has already been said is someone to cover the last year of his wages.
