Slimani

Wasn't Slimani on obscene wages as well?

Getting him off the wage bill, as well as the fee for Chilwell puts us in a good position to reuse that money elsewhere.

About £80k I think

Combine this rumoured deal with Chilwell and it's a big pair of dominoes to fall for us this summer. Gives us a big pot of funds to work with and Slimani's wages off the book will be a breath of fresh air.

Rennes are a good, on-the-up club, cash rich and very well run. It's a great move for Slimani and us and if the fee is high as €8-10mil then even better. Rennes are getting a good goalscorer for that level too.

If we can get Slimani and then Silva off the books that's a massive saving on the wage bill.

I'd hope that some of the money freed up might be spent on upgrading Riccy P's contract. By rights he should be up there with Vardy, Kasper and Madders as one of the highest earners.

Can’t see we get a decent fee and lose the wages. Would be one of the other.

This has to be some sort of dodgy deal through Chelsea as part of the Chilwell deal, my mind won't accept otherwise because it makes no sense.

Actual money and his wages gone? A thirty+ year old donkey with a year left on his contract we desperately want shot of? :o

Huh?

If a player is sold we lose the wages totally?

Rennes will not pay him 80k

assuming they pay him 50k then the difference (which will be 1.5m) will come off the transfer fee or we have to add it to his loyalty payment.  The player will not throw away that 1.5m and the buying club will not pay it. that only leaves us ..... of course we lose 4 m off our wage bill but 1.5m is smoke and mirrors.   Wasn’t expecting to get more than 5m for him ....

I very much doubt we would do that.

It's actually not all that uncommon for deals of this kind - sometimes clubs will agree to continue to pay at least a proportion of the additional wage.

As st Albans fox says, Rennes won't have him on £80kpw. If they were prepared to pay him say £40kpw, the player might not be convinced so City may cover some of the difference in order to convince him to leave.

the 4m is contractually his money. He isn’t going to lose it.  Why would he move to a club and earn 2.5 m next year when we have to pay him 4m??  He will get all the difference - end of .  it’s completely standard practice as you say.

The fee is €8m. Great business if true.

So that’s £7.2m.  We are probably banking 5m after the wage diff and loyalty which is more than acceptable given the circumstances....

 we move on !

and the saving in wages can hopefully all come off the FFP premier league element

FFP has been relaxed due to Covid (I think)

Would also be surprised if he's paid off but that depends on the length of the contract on offer at Rennes. If we dig our heals in and refuse to pay him off and Rennes have put a three year deal on the table then he'd leave of his own accord.

Compared to some we haven’t lost as much money as people think on him, and if you include his Champions League performances which no doubt contributed

to us winning the group, and all the money that brings.

if we get the rumoured 8-10mil then this is far from The worst bit of business the club has done.

Shame it did not work out for him as he can score goals, just not the way we play and in a squad where togetherness is valued highly, probably the wrong fit.

Good luck in France Slim.
