I criticized him a lot last season, especially considering his return was really poor for a supposedly attacking midfielder.

 

He just isn't direct enough as I'd like in an attacking midfielder. Should be picking the ball up and making something happen. He's far too pedestrian. 

If you watch Grealish or Foden they draw players in, beat them and do something out of nothing, run with the ball at pace... everything I like to see and Maddison doesn't do it.

What Madders needs is some 'pashun' and needs to become a box to box midfielder, then take people on and go round 3, then score from corners and take free kicks like Messi.  Then, and only then will he become accepted by some on FT!  Oh wait some on FT will still hate him because he spends his money on (dodgy) clothes and gets off with good looking women!

Not  true though is it.

 

People don't "hate" him either. I think know people just wanna see more output and influence from him.

 

Personally I'm not interested in what footballers do outside of playing for us, they aren't people that interest me really, but I do think that a player can get away with wearing dodgy clothes and generally showing off when he's actually producing on the pitch....

Someone asked about stats/results when he's in or out of the side in all competitions:

 

In:
Played - 38

Team won - 23
Team lost - 9

Team drew - 6

 

Win % - 60.5%

 

Out:
Played - 11
Team won - 5 
Team lost - 4
Team drew - 2

 

Win % - 45.45%

 

Distinctly fewer games played when he's missing hence the win% stats otherwise it's quite skewed.

 

What appears to be his issue, given that he's had a similar amount football this season (2514 minutes, all comps) compared to last season (3091 mins, all comps) is his consistency. Add to that he's clearly not fully-fit when playing this season. It's quite obviously that's having an impact at times. When you look at his record before his latest injury he was in shit-hot form - 7 goals and 4 assists in 14 league games. He probably wants to prove himself to give himself the best chance of getting in to the England squad - but in doing so, playing when half-fit, is probably hindering and hampering more than is doing himself any good let alone the team. 

 

His productivity stats have improved overall though - 11 goals & 10 assists (all comps) compared to last season (9g & 3a). 

 

The biggest problem, which isn't just down to Maddison but definitely does get the finger pointed at him for it, is when we come up against sides which are defensive, have a low block and pack the midfield. Agree with comments that you want a player like him to take a game by the scruff of the neck and create some magic. We've definitely seen it before (vs Brighton for example with that goal) and some assists he's provided, but it's not regular enough. As @Fox92 says, Grealish and Foden are at it all game, or have the intelligence to drop deep and be direct from further back. Maddison doesn't do that enough and is stifled too much. Rodgers has tried to affect this by the 'give-and-go' tactic but we don't do that enough against the defensive teams. That can't all be placed at Maddison's door. He occasionally might try too hard which, again, could be his undoing. A player like him needs other players to be on his level and he will try things safer players don't. But with that comes loss of possessions or mistakes...

I said: "some on FT will still hate him".  That could be only 10% on here, but they are the most vocal.  I've noticed the Chilwell effect with Maddison, for some he will never be good enough.

 

Perhaps I should of used the term dislike, but a little hyperbole is more effective.

Agree with this, 

Plus factor in as well his current / out standing injury which could well develop to be more problematic. 

His last couple of performances remind me of a boxer, miles behind on points and is desperately looking for  a knockout - a la his Hollywood attempts at goal.

Personality clashes, persistent (chronic?) injuries, brushes with ill-disclipline etc.

 

I'd fully expect us to move him on but only given a large enough bid.

Best/Worst case scenario would be that he performs greatly in the FA Cup final, Man United get him for an obscure fee and he struggles for consistency for them; whilst LCFC get a cheap, young replacement for him who looks the business.
