I wouldn’t sell him but he definitely needs another season playing games.

Our centre back options in a years time is likely to be Soyuncu, Fofana, Evans, Benkovic - if he can prove himself again this season he will work his way into the rotation after Morgan and Fuchs have gone.

If Benk has a poor season in the Championship, what on earth led us to pay a lot of money for him in the first place?

His Championship loan was odd. Lee Johnson wouldn't play him for some reason but after he was sacked the new manager selected him for the remaining matches and he was one of their top performers. Some on the BCFC forum described him as the ball playing centre back they had been missing all season.

I want him to do well here but he has legs made of Lotus Biscoff, the chances of him putting in a 40 game season for us are so low sadly.

As a vegan my diet consists of 90% Lotus Biscoff. Maybe I could sign Benko?

I think there were managerial issues at Bristol City.
When he was injury-free and played, he did quite well.

Exactly, there is a good player in there he was superb at Celtic and is good enough to have been capped for Croatia. His injuries are what's holding him back. He may get over his injury (s) and have a consistently spell can imagine the club want another loan or cash in to generate cash flow.

What kind of issues were they?

We signed him before that, and he’s 23 ffs

VVD was at Celtic at 24, Benkovic was starting for Celtic at 21

Clearly Rodgers doesn’t rate him, which is strange because he loves him before his injury at Celtic

See the following.

Of course, we are not actually privy to what went on there,

Seems odd that any other club would sign him given his lack of fitness. Unless there are other issues that have effected him.

The transfer deal and fee could be loaded with conditional clauses, related to appearances.

Personally, I would try to package Benkovic and Hamza to Celtic for McGregor.

However, @Muzzy_Larsson doesn’t think they would be interested this season.

We'd be interested in Benkovic I'm sure but I don't think there's any chance of us selling McGregor this summer.

According to L’Equipe, he is being looked at by Saint-Etienne as a possibly replacement for Fofana

“Around @lequipe to discuss the avenues studied to replace W.#Fofana .
➡️ Filip Benkovic (23 years old 🇭🇷 Leicester)
➡️ Pape Abou Cissé (25 years old 🇸🇳 Olympiacos)
➡️ Ousseynou Ba (24 years old 🇸🇳 Olympiacos.

The #ASSE would have 6 to 7 M € max to recruit a young and fast axial.”

I imagine we would want more than the figure quoted though

If this is true and he's going for that sort of money we should be all over that. Sell Ajer to some daft clu for £20m and then go and sign Benkovic.

Lee Johnson had run out of steam and the club were going backwards. The owner has ploughed millions into Bristol Sport and totally revamped Ashton Gate as a multi purpose stadium for rugby and football. Now the rugby club is successful he wants a return (ie PL) for the football Wing of his empire. The fans lost confidence in Johnson and he was sacked with his assistant, Holden, taking over. Much turmoil but Benkovic got a chance with the change of manager.

Not really strange I just think it shows the different standard levels of each squad

Loan with a decent fee.

A year down the line we are going to have Soyuncu, Fofana and a 34 year old Evans.

We will be in the market for another CB.

We got him in for £13m, we should at minimum recoup that.

Loan the lad out id imagine the likes of Fulham or WBA would be interested.

A half decent season in the premier league and his value would triple.

Send him to the championship to study English football more and gain experience and we might have another great CB.

I truly believe there is more to come from Benko he is still very young.

Show the same patience we did with Gray.

I bet we go in for Tarkowski next Summer if he is still at Burnley. Less than a year left on his contract, he'll be like an Evans signing particularly if Burnley are relegated.

I think we should loan him this season - see if he can play a full season of games and prove his fitness. Still think he could be a decent player if so.

Agree with this, he really needs to at least try and get a full season of game under his belt somewhere.
