Danny Drinkwater promo video shows what a really good player Vardy is.

DD, apparently keen on a move away from Chelski has commissioned a promotion video showing his highlights over a fulfilled career  with lots of Leicester highlights. There aren't that many Premier League winners after all. The video does make Vardy look especially good value for £1mn.

Got to wish him well getting off his road to nowhere. Often rumoured is a possible return but I cannot see that happening, he is so far off the pace and has developed too many off field issues to contend with.

Played for the Chelsea U21's last night, his first competitive start for them since 2018. And they lost.

His move to Chelsea has got to be up there as one of the worst transfers, such a waste.

You get the impression with Drinkwater the problem is nothing to do with what he's capable of on the pitch it's all what he gets up to off the pitch and what's going on between his ears. It'd be good to see him do well still (despite how he left he still won the league with us) but not sure a promo video is the answer. Money might have been better spent on a sports psychologist which I'd assume he already has.

If DD didn't leave Leicester for Chelsea would he still be a regular starter for us at this moment in time? Would his game have developed with Leicester's? Or would he be a "bit part" player like Wes and Fuchs, called upon when needed?

I think what’s occurred after leaving us has tainted some fans’ idea of how fantastic he was for us. For a long time, when he played poorly the whole team did which showed his importance over a 5 year spell and 2 different league titles.

Yeah definitely this.

He was a fantastic player for us and he has the talent to be a fantastic Premier League player still if he wants to be. I think people put him down too much on here and try to retcon how good he was.

I think his Villa and Burnley loan moves have showed his heart just doesn't seem to be in it anymore though.

I think with the bitterness of his departure and his subsequent issues, it’s easy to forget what a special talent he was when fit.

A good reminder watching that.

I was there for that Barnsley game when, at advanced right back, he absolutely bossed it. At just 20/21, he led/cajoled/directed a poor Barnsley team to a marvellous away win against us, at the time promotion favourites.

I was ecstatic when as a direct result, we went and poached him a few days later. Poor Barnsley!

An excellent footballer who understandably backed himself to play a the highest level but lost his way, his fitness and - I suspect - his entire confidence and self esteem.

It'd be nice if he could eventually get himself sorted and an Indian summer somewhere as a wise old head

...interesting question, in as much as if DD was still here would we have needed to procure Youri!!!

If Drinkwater had stayed he would have been in a more stable environment as he would have been around friends especially Matty James who he car shared with coming from up north. I would love the club to bring him back but competition for his role is fierce and we can't be emotional in our decisions as their are players in our squad deserving of their inclusion within group.

His last 6 months with us weren't great either. I remember he was linked with a move away, and his form tanked afterwards. He did that horrific backpass in a game shortly after and I don't think our confidence in him ever recovered after that.

...sorry can not recall that he played in an advanced Right Back role on that day!!!

He ran the show, with everything from Barnsley going through him and he played in a central role and pushed forward more as the game wore on. I went down with my brother and I said to him that "we need to stop that guy, he is running everything, that's the player we need". So happy to see we had brought him not long after and I still believe that with the quality we now have he would be a stand out in the middle of the park.

Real shame what's happened to him, he was massive for us- not just the title season, he was class in 2013/14 and probably our best player for the first half of 2016/17 too. Never recovered from that dodgy pass which led to a West Brom goal.

Let’s be honest here, he could find a club very easily. Chelsea would let him go on a free, and if he was willing to accept a substantially lower salary, and dropped down a league he’d be snapped up by someone.

Similar situation to Wilshere, he’s (probably) unwilling to accept the pay cut and acknowledge that for a number of reasons he just isn’t the player he once was. Past performances and reputation is only worth so much, neither example has shown much to suggest they’re of any real worth to a PL club, or even a challenging Champ side, harsh reality, but it’s true.

Now I’m not bashing Danny, he was terrific for us, and he deserves plaudits for that, but that was then, this is now.

10 years ago I was 5 stone lighter and never had much trouble pulling decent birds, but if I showed a lass a highlights reel of my physique 10 years ago, she’d still f*** me off for a slimmer, smarter geezer with less miles on the clock!

I swear the music on this video references Dennis Praet. Not a great idea to have your successor’s name repeated on your promo video I wouldn’t have thought...

Good player, deserves his place in our history as much for 13/14 as 15/16, and I wish him very well in his quest for new form and a new club. But there’s not room for him here any more.

I was just about to post those exact words. I remember Pearson describing him as a 'complex character' so clearly something is a miss somewhere, but for us it just seemed to be right club, right time.

He would get no where today's squad.  No longer good enough for the EPL.  US or China may be.  Wish him luck.
