I'm all for it for hitting teams on the counter. But this formation as left us so vulnerable to counter attacks. We are playing into the hands of the teams that like to sit deep.

Playing 5 at the back against the might Fulham. What a ridiculous tactical decision. He's just allowed Fulham the confidence to attack us playing this formation. Clueless

Think it's fine when we play the top 6 teams, especially with Ricardo and Castagne in the team, but at home to a side in the bottom 3, probably not the best idea. I wouldn't even mind if the defence was solid with 5 playing there, but they're all over the place on occasions.

Please stop setting up this way whoever we’re playing. The best managers are flexible, use it when we need to in certain away games but in games like this? The last 3 home games in the league we’d mustered one goal (a penalty) and yet nothing changes.

Its clearly more suited to away games.

And stop trying to fit Maddison and Praet into the team, neither are suited to playing off Vardy or pushed out wide. We lose any attacking threat we have by having them pair in these positions.

So many said similar to this in the pre match thread but then so many others complained we were being negative. Actually we were being realistic and could see Rodgers has massively ****ed up here

In this shape it is so hard to see where the attacking threat comes from. Yes against a team that pushes up high you might get Vardy in but for the most part it's just awful. Fed up of watching Evans and Fofana knock it back to each other. Justin has really come along but he is not a top class attacking wingback. Thomas certainly isn't. Maddison and Praet don't work together and both are total passengers.

This is clearly 3 at the back, very different to the way we set up against Man City and Arsenal. Justin and Thomas are much higher up the pitch

And not good enough

It’s exactly how the system got exposed at Spurs last season. You want to be dominant with the ball, you constantly going to find yourselves in a man on man counter attacks. Then as we saw with Bennett and Morgan, you have no pace there you are ****ed

Rodgers knew how Fulham would set up, but rather than playing players who can break them down, he goes with such a defensive side, he will never be a top manager as he’s tactically naive .

Either have confidence in Thomas being able to be part of 4, or don't play him.

Either have confidence in Mendy as the anchor, or play Hamza.

Boats are safest in port but that's not what they're built for.

It's just feckless.

For me, it works against the bigger sides but for teams like Fulham we have to be 4-3-3, playing through the midfield and watch Under/Barnes have a run at them.

Evans is done lads. Trying to accommodate him in the 3 at the back is just useless. Cags and Fofana in a 2 is inexperienced but it’s quick as fvck which is what we need in the prem

Doesn’t have the players available to trust in a 4. He might change it now we’ve got to go for it but I fully understand why he’d be reluctant to do it from the start. Fuchs isn’t going to get up the line so it would essentially be a 3 anyway, Thomas too weak for a 4 atm and Albrighton has shown before that he’s honking in a 4

If the limit of our attacking play is slinging the ball back and forth aimlessly across the half-way line, then it doesn’t matter if we play 3, 4, 5 or 10 at the back. The ball has to go forwards before they are set or we have to beat a player 1:1. That is a fearful  display with low accountability. Poor. Really poor.

It patently 3-4-3

Splitting hairs.

The point is no team serious about finishing in the top 6 lines up with 3 centre backs at home to a side at the bottom of the league.

No reason at all that we couldn’t have effectively had the same positioning for the full backs and an extra man in an attacking position in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3. Vardy and Maddison are the only attacking players on the pitch.
