According to whoscored, Soumaré averages 1.3 tackes per game and 1.1 interceptions. Ndidi averages 3.5 tackes and 2.2 interceptions.

He's just not the ball winning Defensive midfielder we need imo.

Tbf to the lad ... can you really compare anyone to Wilf? The man is a monster / machine / freak of nature pick your superlative. Point being he is world class at what he does and there are very few senior players in the world that could compare let alone 21 year olds.

Ndidi's biggest asset is his ability to win the ball back. So his back-up or long term successor should also be in the same mould imo. Soumaré isn't anything like him and won't ever be.

Because he's not a defensive midfielder

With 1 goal and zero assists in 73 top flight games he probably hopes people do class him as a DCM.

To pluck an example out of thin air, Mousa Dembele is someone who very rarely scored or assisted for Spurs but probably wouldn't be classed as a defensive midfielder. You could say our very own Dennis is another

Fabrizio reckons we're trying to tie this up sharpish, be a strange one wouldn't it. In terms if priorities a striker and a winger will be 1 and 2 won't they.

Exciting that we're likely to have KDH, Sowah and Iversen join the squad too.

Wonder what the plan with sowah is- he might benefit from just being around our squad for a year.

Yeah, there are players like that but and the very good ones are worth their while but then there's muck like Harry Winks.

Any idea what the plan is with Iversen? By all accounts he's acquitted himself well on his loans. Do you think we're likely to try to find him a top-end Championship loan or have him stick around and challenge (or potentially displace altogether) Ward?

I'd like to think he gets another loan, on the same sort of trajectory as Dean Henderson. How many games would he play as cover for Schmeichel, who under Rodgers even plays lots of cup games instead of Ward?

He's very young for a goalkeeper, he's got plenty of time to make it here.

Jakupovic won't get another year I'd imagine so he'll be in and around the squad I reckon. Purely based on guesswork but the club were obviously very keen to get him playing a decent level of football this year weren't they.

TBF, all the 'noise' is coming from  the same journalist...

Romano's connections are mainly direct with the players Agents and is known to be quite reliable. At this point there may of just been contact made between the club and the players agent to gauge player and clubs likely demands.

I wasn’t dissing Romano! I follow him on Twitter and know that he’s fairly reliable. My point was that it’s not a story anyone else has latched on to, for what that’s worth

If he's not a defensive midfielder then his stats are even more shocking. If you're not a player that wins the ball back then you need to be creative or score goals which he doesn't.

If he's supposedly going to play the Tielemans role then he needs to up his goal contributions massively. Tielemans has 7 so far this season, this guy has 3 in his whole career.

We have a player in Dewsbury-Hall who will make a fantastic Tielemans understudy next season.

Not quite sure if Soumare is the right player we should be after

He has mainly played in a 2 man midfield with Benjamin Andre this season, who is certainly the more Wilf-esque player of the 2, but then Soumare hasn't even really been much of a creative player so he doesn't really do the Youri role either

He is a better back up than either of Mendy or Hamza, but unless it is a really cheap deal, not sure it would be worth it

Soumare is a weird one, his stats don’t jump off the page, not the kind of midfielder I’d go for.

If we want a better back up to Ndidi, one of Joao Palhinha, Ibrahim Sangare or Diadie Samassekou would be the answer.

If we want a box to box midfielder, I’d look at Teun Koopmeiners from Alkmaar.

Should watch him more. More of a decoure type and even better. He's a cm, box to box esque
