Do we definitely need a RW option or does Barnes become the Mahrez replacement?? Maybe a club of our size doesn't have the resources to have a worldy option in every position. Maybe we have to find ways to win and compete despite some of the shortcomings of the squad. Barnes has nowhere near as much output as mahrez and has a much worse linkup with vardy, he's a good player but he doesnt fill mahrez's boots. Tarkowski is the weakest of the 4 but from his point of view, when he has openly stated that he still has international ambitions, why would he go to a club to sit on the bench? With Armarty, Justin etc we have ample and adequate cover. He'd be a total drain of money that could be spent more wisely in positions of a higher priority. I’d obviously rather none of them leave, but it’s clear that we have to be prepared for injuries. We’ve been linked constantly and I don’t think it’s gonna end just because we signed fofana, I think brendan wants a strong a squad as possible and he’s not gonna be expensive. His England ambitions will only be strengthened joining a team that has seen relative success in that department and will continue to.

South Shire Fox Posted 20 February 2021 Share Posted 20 February 2021 (edited) Im sure its already been said but if Brentford dont go up we should be all over Ivan Toney. His stats both scoring and assisting are unreal and would be an ideal Vardy backup/replacement. Being a local ish lad from Northampton and a former academy player i bet he’d jump at the chance aswell to right a few wrongs. His England ambitions will only be strengthened joining a team that has seen relative success in that department and will continue to. His England ambitions would hardly be strengthened even if he joined Liverpool, Man City or Real Madrid if he's not getting a game! It's not about the team you're in it's about how good you are and current form. Rodgers prefers a 4 at the back and we've already got 3 better players than him to keep happy. We already have at least 2 very good and able back ups and you can only have so many players in a squad anyway. I can see him costing £20m at least and if you look at how much we've spent over the last few years without selling a major player, you've just blown most of the budget on a 'just in case' reserve! It's like collecting shiny expensive things, just in case, but in the real world they'll all command big wages whether playing or not. It's a business after all and if we wanted that much specialist cover in every position we'd have unrest amongst players and a terrible financial situation. As Evans has just signed a new contract I see him as the ideal experienced head for Soyuncu and Fofana who are young and our future whether long term on the pitch or for sale on a huge transfer fee. There'd be no future value in an ageing Tarkowski either. Edited 20 February 2021 by volpeazzurro

Granted, he got 13 goals and 6 assists in the first 17 games, but it was noticeable that once he'd played everyone once, teams adjusted their defensive strategy and managed to contain him fairly well. It remains to be seen if Barnes goes that way, but to me he has a lot of what Mahrez didn't have - he doesn't just have to rely on his technical quality and ball control, because he has the upper body strength and the raw pace to beat a man too. The Mahrez replacement was Maddison, anyway, because we dropped Okazaki and moved our main creative outlet centrally - that's something Puel did with Ben Arfa at Nice, among others. I would like a different option to Albrighton but it's undeniable he gives us good balance and still has a use in this team and squad. We're not good enough out of possession to have a passenger on the right wing like Mahrez anymore. 2
moore_94 Posted 20 February 2021 Share Posted 20 February 2021 (edited) Florian Thauvin - nothing really new, just gone from being interested to suggesting we are actually going to be "making a move" http://sportwitness.co.uk/leicester-city-moving-sign-player-foxes-competition-e3m-tax-wages-prepared/ Leicester City ‘moving’ to sign player – Foxes competition as €3m after-tax wages being prepared AC Milan are keen on signing Florian Thauvin on a free transfer, and Leicester City are again being mentioned as competition. The Marseille attacker’s contract expires at the end of June and therefore he’s going to be available on a free transfer. Sevilla have been credited with interest in the Spanish sport media, with the Foxes also credited with interest at that time. Now, Il Milanista bring Leicester in when covering interest from the Rossoneri. They believe there’s no chance of Thauvin renewing with Marseille, and therefore Milan are preparing an offer for him. That would see them pay the Frenchman €3m a year after tax. That’s a reasonable offer, yet there’s still worry about Brendan Rodgers’ side. Leicester are said to be ‘moving’ to sign the Marseille player, unconvinced by Cengiz Under and unlikely to turn the AS Roma man’s loan into a permanent deal. Thauvin has scored seven goals and added seven assists in 24 Ligue 1 matches so far this season. Edited 20 February 2021 by moore_94

I know they arent and he’ll probably cost a similar fee but would be money well spent. If we can spend 30 million on players like Ayoze Perez then we should be all over players who would drastically improve our squad like him. Wages wouldnt be anyway near the levels of Danny Ings either.

It's almost forgotten that Mahrez went over 4 months without scoring a goal at home from the Chelsea game to the Swansea one. On form he was majestic but he wasn't always sparkling. I had great hopes for Barnes watching him in 2018-19 and he has certainly met my expectations if not equalled them. Getting a like for like replacement for Mahrez was always gonna be a huge ask but the team is so much stronger all round than the one he left behind.

moore_94 Posted 20 February 2021 Share Posted 20 February 2021 Leicester are weighing up a summer move for the country’s top goalscorer Ivan Toney. The Foxes are in the hunt for the Champions League places and boss Brendan Rodgers and his recruitment chiefs are looking for more back-up for Jamie Vardy. Brentford striker Toney has been a revelation since joining from Peterborough last summer. The forward has scored a stunning 24 goals in 31 Championship matches this season. The Bees hitman, for whom they paid an initial £5million, won’t come cheap though, given he will still have a further four years left on his contract from this summer. Brentford are aware of the growing interest in Toney, 24, and know they will face a battle to keep him this summer of they do not win promotion to the Premier League themselves. The goals Toney has scored has helped them come into the weekend in second place behind Norwich - although he could do little to stop Franke's men succumbing to a third straight defeat against Coventry. But they have shown in the recent past a willingness to cash in on star men, parting with £20millon Neal Maupay and £33million Ollie Watkins in the last two summers. Rodgers can turn to Kelechi Iheanacho when Vardy is out injured or suspended but has never appeared fully convinced by the ex-Manchester City man. Former England striker Vardy turned 34 last month and Toney is seen as a potential long-term replacement. However, there are no signs of him slowing down anytime soon. Would there be any more fitting Vardy replacement than someone who's taken a few rejections and come up the hard way? If he comes, he may well hit the ground running but surely we'd need to be patient and give him a season to bed in at least.

LCFCCHRIS Posted 20 February 2021 Share Posted 20 February 2021 Just watched a video talking about our transfer policy. Incredible stuff when you think about how young the players we've brought in have been. Probably the best transfers in the last 5 years for any team in Europe. Of course we'll have some duds like all teams but it's incredible how well we've done.
