I obviously won't take it as badly tonight as most of you but trust me I know what failure feels like as a football fan, this season of all seasons. Rodgers could have done things differently tonight, particularly in the second-half when a reaction was required but even if he made the correct moves when people like Soyuncu performed the way they did and made the basic mistakes they made I'm not sure what difference it would have made. The most disappointing thing for me tonight was the lack of urgency and desire, no matter the personnel or system that should never be an issue, especially given whats at stake and on that front the players need to have a long hard look at themselves. ....just a question...!!! Did you experience games such as these under Rodgers at Celtic. It just looks like in the big games, we just do not turn up and put up a performance so far removed from what we have previously seen. It is just that all the team are woeful not just three or four and I just wonder if it is something he says or he changes a post match ritual as to the lacklustre performances we have seen over the last two seasons.

I can’t forget throwing away a 14 point lead on the side in fifth last season. Yes but it’s looking like for a second season on the trot we’ll finish outside the top 4 after spending the majority of it in there. I do realise there’s still 3 games to go but I’m not confident of doing it now. It was bitterly disappointing. And like you, sadly, I think we're going to be disappointed again. But I can't think of anyone who would achieve what BR is achieving with this squad, even if it is 5th and an fa Cup final we have to settle for.

Even Vardy seems to have lost his nasty aura about him. I think that when Vards was our best player and banging in goals, he felt able to lead / motivate / b*llock .... without those goals (and with such a minimal contribution now) he probably doesn't feel he has the right to be hauling anyone over the coals 1

I disagree with that tbh, just before BR appointment I thought we had a team which looked good enough for European place with whatever manager, obviously CL another level but we haven't made that. If BR doesn't get us a European place with our squad I think it's failure 1 1

Would love to see him just lose his shit and nutt Maddison after a failed snail dribble and misplaced 3 yard pass. 1
Rigga Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 Don’t need reminding of last season... but 14pts... jeez, just brings it all back again.. he leaves in the summer... Europa league with us won’t excite him..
Blanchflower78 Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 Very good coach but you can't mask 2 major failures consecutively. The man has pride and if a name comes knocking I doubt he'll turn it down for a third year at it. In truth what's he going to achieve, top 4 at best. If after 2 stints when very much nailed on he fails, I can't see the enthusiasm for more sadly.
fox_up_north Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 I'm really conflicted. On one hand - it's amazing what Brendan has got out of the likes of Nacho, Justin, Barnes, etc. But, at the same time, he has this massive blind spot for falling at the final hurdle. I think it's that which is the worst thing. I think he absolutely deserves to stay on because, for us, two EL campaigns on the trot is incredible but it cannot happen a third time. If we are to finish fifth, I want us to earn it by fighting for it and knowing we tried our best and that's where we were. Absolutely no shame in that. It's better than 75% of the league and still amazing. But I don't want to see the team just completely fall to pieces right when we don't need to. Regardless of finish, he's got a big summer ahead. We've ruffled enough feathers now that clubs don't want us anywhere near top 4 but they won't fear us next year because they'll know we've got form for fading away. If he buy right next year then, for me, he's got to get us to the latter stages of the EL. I dismissed people who said we should aim for the semi but, after seeing some of the dross in the competition (I'd never really watched it before) then my god we should absolutely be making the quarters and fighting properly for top 6/4. If we fade away again, then he's got to go. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me a third time, get in the fuching bin.

This is on him, this is on the players, Chilwell last year for example, it's all to easy to say Europa won't excite him, they're part of the reason we bottled last season and why it could happen again this season.

cruzFOX Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 Its was all psychological today 100%. something was not right and it all fell apart quickly. shocking display at this point in the season

Steve Earle Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 Christ this thread is painful & embarrassing to read. It defines ‘fickle’! We have the best manager this club, at this time, could hope for. Is he perfect? Of course not. But he’s a brilliant manager. And whether you agree with that or not, he’s our manager 1

Bptiger Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 I think this all comes back to the club not getting another playmaker in , YOURI has been burned out he had another very flat game again, but u just can’t keep playing him every week and expect 100% , is it Rodgers fault or the owners who knows but it is now two years in a row , maybe time for Rodgers to move on .

I think being so out of form hurts Vardy more than we may think, and he just doesn't feel he has the right to do anything other than get his head down and do his best. But yeah, I'd love to see him bring Btec Beckham down a peg or two! 3

I've been expecting him to get a red for a nasty challenge these past few weeks as the frustration boils over but he's starting to look a little more defeated than anything else. 2

We can't bring in another player of his quality either and sit him on the bench.

Exactly what I've been thinking too. It might just reflect him thinking it's coming to an end. Really very sad. 1

I think Puel was unfortunate and given more time might have cracked it tbh. Youri was the missing link and yes we've added since but who knows who Puel might have got given time. don't get me wrong I think I at the time thought he should go but there's no doubt he was building a really good team, BR has added castagne, Fofana, Perez and gotten rid of some of our dead wood, Puel may have been equally as good imo 1
Corky Posted 7 May 2021 Posted 7 May 2021 I wonder if he's a bit too comfortable. He's on huge money, great reputation in the media so little criticism, other clubs heavily linked, already at a lesser club so if we miss out we're at our level etc etc. He's not going to be (and shouldn't be) sacked but maybe we have to accept that we aren't going to go to the limit and really push it towards the end of the season. Pearson, for example, didn't have the reputation Rodgers has but when the tough run-ins came, he and his team stood up to the challenge. I just don't feel we'll do that. Tonight was terrible in so many ways. 2
