you know the player has to want to move to the other club right? you can't tell players to come and play for LCFC but if you're any good we won't allow you to progress in the PL. they wouldn't come to us if they thought we'd try to dictate the location of their career when they want to move.

No, but these things get informally thrashed out during contract signing. If said player tries to force a move then retain him. Yes his value would decrease but the clubs after him that year would've moved onto other players. Ots not something we could do often otherwise reputation takes a hit. Like I said, it has to be done in the right way. Lots of ins and outs.

Precisely. Stamp our foot down if a potential sale abroad is reasonable amd decline the PL clubs. We can't keep keep doing it.

It’s all well and good saying stop strengthening teams above us and take 20% hit selling abroad.

Its not like Chelsea would not have signed another left back if they couldn’t have taken Chilwell and Man United another centre half.

All that happens is we have less revenue to replace.

If we stop career progression then top young players will stop coming to us.  If we hadn't missed out on CL football in the last 2 years, then we could look at it from a different angle.  Players move on from Dortmund who have an 80,000 capacity stadium and have CL football on regular basis, so we have to accept that some players want to play for a club that has a chance of winning the CL and league titles.

Don't forget the double or triple your money pay packet, it can be very persuasive!

Hardly surprising he's on Man Utds list when one of their top priorities this summer is a centre back. No doubt they will have a LONG list and i'd imagine Cags is in the top 10.

But how do you stop the annual selling of our best players. The problem is we would like to be a top four club, but while we sell and strengthen the top four clubs and make team weaker in the process what chance do we have. If we are serious then we do not sell any player to the top clubs and build a reputation around that strategy. Lets face it they would not sell their top players to us even if we had the funds.

Do you realise the biggest clubs in this country have revenues that dwarf ours? If we're not going to sell players, where do you suggest we get money from to compete?

I just don't get it. Look at where we are, where we've come from and how we've got here. What we're doing is working. No need to change it.

What is starting to concern me is selling to our rivals year in year out. It isn't healthy.

They're only our rivals on the pitch and probably temporally.

you shouldn't be expecting us to have a sustained rivalry when these clubs generate four times as much money.

The model is fine if we can buy up and coming talent for £20-£30m and move them on for twice the price and more and reinvest.

Agree, we've had five big sales in recent years.

Kante - We had no choice because of the release clause but still made the best of a bad situation squeezing £10m more out of Chelsea.

Mahrez - Didn't want to sell but the player was determind to go and a fair price in the end considering his age.

Drinkwater, Maguire & Chilwell I personally was happy to sell for the money on offer.

If we were taking £10m less so our players didn't go to other English clubs then we're getting above our station. Our long term aim is to be best of the rest and anything else is a bonus. I'd rather have £70m of Man Utd's money than £60m of Barcelona's.

If we want to be a big team (everyone's got their own perceptions as to how big we are) then we need to start using that ethos in the end. We have a different model yeah sure, similar to Saville and A Madrid a decade ago, but they, like our top clubs all use that tool when they feel that it will benefit them.

Simple as that.

Yeah, Choudhury.

seriously, I don't think we will sell any of our first team players unless they want to move. I can see spending £50m net this transfer window, if only to ensure we stay ahead of the likes of Everton, Villa, West Ham etc.

Do you mean Seville, or does this explain why more often than noted our rated academy respects leave?

Give me some examples when Seville have rejected a bid from Real Madrid or Barcelona only to accept a lower one from a foreign club.

I’d be amazed if it’s happened.

I meant more often than not; but evidently I can't type.

I'm just talking about the trend for players get get POTY and then be gone the next year, or whatever, please the Gyamfi thing and the ongoing Tavares stuff.

But essentially it was a joke that you just didn't get.

If I knew how to stop players leaving our club, I would be employed by them!  I hate it, but have to accept that the the lure of a bigger pay packet and prestige is going to persuade many players!  I just think we as a club have to learn to live with it for a while and accept we will be a Dortmund type club, where a lot of talented young players want to go and see it as a stepping stone.  I would rather have this model than what Everton or until recently West Ham have tried to do.  It is no coincidence Moyes and the owners of West Ham have looked at us and now are trying to replicate it.

Simple as that.

Or we only sign 3 first choice targets instead of 4 or 5.  Soumare, Daka/Edouard and  hopefully a winger could be achievable with our budget without having to sell on a first teamer.  Then we go for the likes of Bertrand on a free instead of splashing out 35 mill of Gosens.

Anyone in their right mind leaves him alone on current form. Needs at least another year with us and a weekly meeting with the club psychologist.

I said a few weeks ago the 2 players in our 11 that are replaceable are Cags and Maddison. I wouldn’t be proactively looking to sell but do we want him tied onto a huge contract? Seems to go to shit at the worst possible time.

It’ll still happen even if we do get champions league.

We can’t/won‘t pay the wages of the megabrand clubs, plus we can’t offer the ego boost of playing for one of them.

Us being in the champions league isn’t going to stop someone moving to Real Madrid, Man Utd, etc if they want more money and/or to play for a big famous club.
