Different types of defender, Tarkowski is more like Morgan , reads the game extremely well and knows how to get in the way at critical moments. He is no flair player like Cags but don't underrate him , he is a class player. 2

It makes sense on the right where we have had issues with Perez and hence Albrighton taking that position and Thomas on the left (we need a 2nd LB behind Barnes when he's back as I'm not sure about Thomas). I know BR has made a couple of comments this year about going into a diamond but for that we'd need Soumare centrally with Praet on the right and Tielemans on the left. The danger with that is that we've been crap with opposition balls being whipped into the box and into the net. Just personally, I don't think we've got the right personnel for 3 at the back and we've been poor for a long time now and riding on the back of early season successes. Ricardo is no winger or wing back and Castagne only a little better at it. Yet, they are both tremendous fullbacks, the former particularly devastating running from deep rather like Liverpool's do in a back 4. I think if we'd started last season with a back 3 we'd have finished about halfway. I also think if Rodgers persists with his end of last seasons tactics and formation his job position will be under scrutiny by Christmas. With everyone fit and a couple of new signings we will have a very talented squad of players and he will have no excuses. 1
Kuredufox Posted 9 June 2021 Author Posted 9 June 2021 I would be really disappointed he did leave but could he be the one in the season to go (as we seem to do) and Youri stays. If that is the case I am sure that the fee received would be sufficient to improve the team further
Vardinio'sCat Posted 10 June 2021 Posted 10 June 2021 Keep unless he turns down a really good contract offer, and not to an English club. He's a fine player with more to come, and we shouldn't let him go easily, but we don't want him to run his contract down. Next summer could be tragic if we do not get our top talent to extend their deals.

Which would mean for a £25m fee for Tarkowski then receiving a £100.00 on top of that would therefore be acceptable? 1

UHDrive Posted 20 June 2021 Posted 20 June 2021 What is starting to concern me is selling to our rivals year in year out. It isn't healthy.

The reality is that the clubs we sell to are amongst the richest in world football and given the amount that we charge for our players, we create quite a narrow base of clubs who can afford to bid. Can't forget that this is our model and will be until we become an established Champions League club. 3

It kind of is healthy if we can keep selling one and replacing them with two or three who all strengthen either the team, the squad or both. Logically I suppose if it keeps working there would come a time when our squad is so good that we can no longer improve it, but if that ever happens we’ll probably be winning things so the dynamic would be a bit different! But at the moment I can’t see any other way of working if we want to keep progressing.

I understand your point but there must me a signings that every now and then we see PSG or Dortmund. We've had interest in a few players over the last few years but I think it's time to put a marker down, drop £5-10mil on the transfer and sell them abroad. Otherwise these "richest in world football" will get used to shuffling our players up their players transfer list on their betting slips, year after year.

But unfortunately (sic) we’re possibly the ‘best of the rest’ in the world’s richest and most prestigious league. Our best players are now quite limited in the clubs they can go to without it being at best a sideways move. Ten or twelve clubs at the absolute most. Maybe only seven or eight really. And four of them are in England.
