Fookin hell its a 3pm Saturday fixture. That's all I have to write on the subject.

If I remember rightly, we didn't have a single one last season?

Wolves: Fans react to referee announcement

Wolves: Fans react to referee announcement - Wolves News

Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers tenure begins on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Leicester City.

It’s something of a baptism of fire for the Portuguese tactician given that the Foxes finished fifth last season and won the FA Cup.

Ahead of the first round of fixtures, the league has announced the list of refereeing appointments. Craig Pawson will take charge of the clash at the King Power Stadium, with Michael Oliver the lead VAR.

CRAIG PAWSON’S PREVIOUS WOLVES ENCOUNTERS
Pawson was the man in the middle for three Wolves matches last season. He oversaw two defeats against Liverpool – 4-0 at Anfield in December and 1-0 at Molineux in March – and also an incident-packed 2-1 victory over Arsenal.

The game featured two red cards for the Gunners, with David Luiz and Bernd Leno dismissed, and a penalty that Ruben Neves tucked away.

Overall, Pawson brandished 80 yellow cards over the course of the season, the fifth-highest total among the division’s officials.

Fan feed Talking Wolves relayed the news once it was confirmed, and here’s what supporters made of it.

There was a rumour that a Premier league manager liked to refer to himself in the third person during intercourse. My money would be on the Brodge.

Paul Jewell. 🤢🤮 (Bastard news of the world owes me new eyes!)

Months without football, I hope our lot stay until full-time.

Aah!

The first sight of the hallowed green turf. The gentle waft of smoke dispersing. Excited preseason chatter in the stands. And the age old debate as to how long before the end of the game is it acceptable to leave.

I know this place has it moments but you wanna read the match prediction thread on Molineux Mix. Most predicting a heavy defeat. I don't see it being that comfortable personally bit we should win

Nope and last one we’ve been able to attend was Southampton on January 11th 2020.

Same team as the Community Shield for me, though feel for Kelechi... Reckon it'll be a comfortable 2-0, Wolves don't appear to be the same team from past years.

Also for those who play BetRebel, I've created a Leicester fans league if anyone wants to join. League code if anyones interested: t02SEe7qIdznQYG0c8mJ

Not sure if anyone has already said this, but just a heads up for anyone who usually gets the Birmingham to Leicester via Nuneaton train. There's engineering works so it's a partial bus replacement service, plus they are only running a once hourly service. They best be running one of the longer trains.

Will be interesting to see if Vestergaard will feature in this match. Hopefully he will be able to. :)

Me too. He's slower than glacial drift.

Can't see him signing in time though.

Medical being completed today apparently - guess it just depends on how much pre-season training time he had with Southampton.

He’ll have signed in time but it’s just not a very Rodgers thing to do to Chuck a new signing in straight away. Amartey played well on Saturday and we kept a clean sheet. No need to change it.

Rodgers wants Vestergaard to play v Wolves
It's a transfer that's moving so quickly he may end up playing on Saturday.

Rodgers said at his press conference this afternoon that the club "will see" if they can get the deal done in time. He would need to be registered before midday on Friday to feature against Wolves.

The Southampton boss has also been speaking about the future of the defender.

Here is what he had to say.

14:04JORDAN BLACKWELL
Captain?
“We confirmed that yesterday with the squad. Kasper will step forward in the role as captain. He’s been a wonderful ambassador for the club, and he’s perfect for the role as captain. He’s very inspirational on the field. Supporting him as vice-captain will be Jonny Evans. He knows the club, he will support the younger players. He’s still very hungry to keep winning and improving. They will be a great help to me.”

14:04JORDAN BLACKWELL
Injuries?
“We’re just going to make a final decision on Timothy tomorrow. He’s trained well. This week he’s joined in with his mask, and he feels comfortable. He’s done everything we would want for him to participate in the game. Jonny was out on the pitch today. The plan for him is for after the international break. We’re just assessing the pain of that.”

14:04JORDAN BLACKWELL
Stadium?
“It’s an incredible tribute to Khun Vichai and his legacy… You see some clubs and the decline that can set in, but the strength shown to continue this amazing journey. It’s been an incredible success. What I love about the ownership is their will to be better. They want to make the facilities better and that aligns with my view. The development of the stadium will bring us more supporters, and extra revenue and extra jobs for the city. Hopefully over the next decade we can continue that success.”

14:04JORDAN BLACKWELL
Ghezzal and Praet?
“Rachid is someone we will look to move on. I have to pay testament to him, his attitude was excellent in pre-season. He wants to continue playing. Dennis is someone who has returned later from pre-season training so we didn’t involve him. Where it goes for Dennis, it remains to be seen. He’s at that age where he will want game-time, but if he’s here, he’s available for us.”

14:03JORDAN BLACKWELL
Arteta says toughest transfer window?
“For the majority of clubs, it’s a tough market. Some will be able to spend more than others. Our success is built around planning and innovation and common sense. We have to have a common sense approach. We wanted to approve, but the pandemic has hit most clubs, including ourselves. But there will be exceptions and some teams will spend.”

14:03JORDAN BLACKWELL
Why Vestergaard?
“Without going into too much detail while it’s not done, we were very light in the area. It’s a great tribute to the club that we have acted quickly to get in a quality player. Once it’s done, I can speak more on it.”

14:03JORDAN BLACKWELL
Players' improvements?
“It’s why I do the job. My priority is teaching players, helping them develop, creating a culture that allows them to keep pushing. Each year we have improved on our points and our goals, and we will try to do that. It’s the biggest satisfaction of the job, seeing growth on and off the field.”

14:02JORDAN BLACKWELL
Barnes?
“He’s not up to speed physically yet. You see him in training and one v ones, he’s such a threat. I thought he was excellent in the game last weekend. I’m sure this will be a big season for him.”

14:02JORDAN BLACKWELL
Wolves?
“Nuno did a brilliant job in his time there, and they’ve moved on. They’ve brought Bruno a manager the hierarchy know well. He will thoroughly enjoy it in the Premier League. He normally plays 4-4-1-1, but they’ve gone back to 3-4-3 recently. All the games against Wolves have been tight, and I expect this to be the same.”

14:02JORDAN BLACKWELL
Daka glimpses?
“Him and Kelechi came into the game and continued with that thrust. They brought us that energy. Patson plays on the last line, and when he gets in there, he normally finishes. He will really help us this season.”

14:02JORDAN BLACKWELL
New signings?
“I always allow that first season for the adaption. Some will adapt very quickly to the football and life in general. You get some who adapt straight away. We’re pleased with the three we’ve brought in. Ryan with his experience and quality will be huge for us, and he will be important for Luke Thomas. Patson and Bouba have power and technique. I’m excited to see what they can do.”

14:02JORDAN BLACKWELL
How improve on FA Cup win?
“We have a memory of the FA Cup and an achievement that is going to bind us together for the rest of our lives, for the players, staff and supporters, it was an amazing day. But you have to keep looking forward, and get ready for a really exciting future. The idea is to get better every single day. I see the players’ confidence.”

14:01JORDAN BLACKWELL
Community Shield?
“We arrive into the season in a really good place. I don’t think any team is going to be at their highest level physically. We moved the ball well against a team that test your organisation. I thought we were very good in the game. It leaves us in a nice position and sets us up perfectly for the weekend.”

14:01JORDAN BLACKWELL
Messi?
“I adore Lionel Messi. You saw the sadness of him when he left Barcelona. He’s gone from a boy to a man to a hero there. He’s gone in a new direction. We always want to have the best players in the Premier League. He’s gone to a good club in PSG and there’s some frontline they’ve got there.”

14:01JORDAN BLACKWELL
New winger?
“We’ll see.”

14:01JORDAN BLACKWELL
More transfers after Vestergaard?
“I think we would. We’ve got players in early, but we want to add more in if we can. We know what we will like, but whether we can afford to do what we like.”

14:01JORDAN BLACKWELL
Vestergaard?
“There’s been contact by the clubs. There’s been nothing finalised. Yes (he’s up in Leicester). We’ll have to wait and see (if he can play at the weekend). We have permission for him to be here, and then we’ll see if we can get it done and if he’s available for the weekend.”

14:00JORDAN BLACKWELL
How's Fofana?
“He’s doing very well. He’s back home and he’s in great spirits. It’s hugely disappointing for him, but he’s had the operation and it’s gone very well. We look forward to seeing him in a few days when he comes in. These injuries can be between four and eight months so we have to see on that. With his ligaments, it will be on the longer side.”

Interesting comment about Barnes, he’s looked sharp as ever in pre season and in the community shield.

It sounds like Rodgers is saying he can't do the 90 minutes -- I wonder if he plans to change the shape and bring in Nacho and/or Daka at the 60 minute mark?
