If you could offer him half of that to be a Leicester player ….. and have a PL medal, FA cup winner’s medal and even a Charity shield medal, I wonder what he’d choose?

You could do a similar analysis of most footballers and the numbers will be hard to comprehend but supply and demand. It's not like this is taxpayers or the public money, but it's financed by private individuals.

It is all financed by private individuals ultimately.

We pay to watch the game.

We pay for the goods that the sponsors provide.

We pay for the Sky and BT Sport subscriptions what mostly pay their wages.

We but the goods that the individual sponsors provide.

If the transfer fees were not as big, if the wages and bonuses were much smaller, Sky wouldn’t need to pay out as much, the sponsors wouldn’t pay as much, etc etc.

Good luck to him (except when he plays against us). He can take notes from Mahrez on what its like sitting on the bench for many games when Pep feels like it.

Villa will have to move on and who knows they may even become a better tea without him with the new players brought in!

His wages are subsidised by a foreign nation, a large proportion of which will be paid in tax or spent in this country. His wages are arguably an invisible export.

It’s not his fault he gets paid silly money. None of us would turn it down would we…

Exactly this.

Weird thread.

Football generates a lot of money, would you rather it go to the players who are largely working class or pay them £3,000 a week salary capped and the billionaire owners pocket the cash?

Some actors earn multi millions for a few months making a film. And then go and make more films, earning shedloads.

Market forces, innit.

It's not Marxism even if he takes a knee!

Exactly we're the reason why they get paid what they get paid. If you're really upset about it, but you're paying for sky, buying the merchandise, talking about the games with friends and family then ultimately we're funding their wages. The fans are promoting the brand which is why there is so much money in football.

Probably Man City still considering they will challenge for the league, FA Cup, league cup and Champions League.

I'll buy that argument for ManU; not ManCity. It's funded by petrodollars trying to buy respectability for a fairly unpalatable regime.

He is being paid £2,200 per hour, every hour..... even when he is asleep. He can go to bed at midnight, get up at 8.00am and will be £17,000 richer.

If that is too much for you to get your head around, think of it like this: If he is just paid for the work he does i.e. playing for an hour and a half for say 50 times a season, his hourly rate becomes £256,533. DISGUSTING

All this does is encourage other players to demand more and more money which in the long run is unsustainable. Eventually professional football will implode on itself and maybe we can get back to some sort of sanity.

By the way, for the £100M transfer fee which would you prefer, one Jack Grealish or a hundred Jamie Vardy's.....

I know which I would choose.

Frankly I agree. It’s insane, the sad thing is, I can’t see it imploding anytime soon.

Could you imagine being in a room with 100 Vardy's I love the fella, but 100 would be too much of a good thing.

I don't think the point was to criticize Grealish, just the sheer obscenity that the people's game has become. Salary caps are needed because it is just getting ridiculous.

Do you put petrol in your car or turn your boiler on at home? You are finding the ‘petrodollars’ if you do.

Anyone know his great, great grandad played for this fine club?

Read that the other day. Seems to have had a great goalscoring career aside from his spell with us!

The point about long term sustainability is quite right. There should be a salary cap concept in football like what they have in the US.

Footballers do a lot a more than 90 minutes 50 times a season. Training, travel, hotel stays away from family. They study video, have media commitments etc etc.

Did you see some of our lads on social media traing their bollocks off on their holidays. When was the last time you hit the gym on holiday?

Top footballers are on that kind of money because they are highly driven and hard working. More power to them better the players take money out the game than the disgusting greedy owners.

I'd imagine the 20 trophies he'll probably win with Man City over the next 6 years.
