Seems like he's only got a year left on his deal. Better to take something now than nothing in 12 months, I suppose.

It wouldn’t offset how much they would lose for getting relegated. If I were a Saints fan I wouldn’t even consider it right now.

Rob Tanner saying Tarks and Vestergaard on the shortlist. I think Brendan wants PL experience.

And one would cost about £10m more than the other, allegedly, m’lud.

I dont know but we best brace ourselves  for some 9-0 results.

Well one a season anyway😂😂

Tbf Bertrand wasn't on the pitch while we beat them 9-0.

I think Kabak is more likely to happen given age and price, But I certainly wouldn't be unhappy with Vestergaard either.

Thought he was off to Sevilla?

Well not for 8 of the goals he wasn't anyway.

This was my thinking with Tarkowksi too. Why would Burnley sell their best defender for £20m when that would pale in comparison to staying up

Same applies here, but maybe they have a decent replacement lined up. That would be my only hope on either

Out of curiosity, what was Southampton's defensive record like with both Vestergaad and Bertrand playing last season?

Games where they both played an hour or more:

P21 / W7 / D5 / L9 / GF33 / GA37 / GD -4

3 goals for Vestergaard amongst those, including a 92nd minute equaliser to draw 3-3 with Chelsea. Only 4 clean sheets. Vestergaard was injured so he wasn't in the squad for the 9-0 loss (Bertrand was)

Really think picking up two Saints players and dropping them in a team with better screening, ability and coaching isn’t a bad idea

Didn’t Bertrand get sent off early in that game though?

That was the 9-0 against us.

Last season they lost 9-0 again to Man United. Jankewitz was sent off 2nd minute, Bednarek in the 86th.

Left-footed and good in the air. Handy

Soyuncu and Vestergaard are both best at LCB so there's the first problem.

Swap deal for Praet? Would suit all parties.

Except Praet, I would have thought. Choudhury may be a better fit for them as they like the high press. Choudhury has the energy to do this well. Choudhury + £5m.

Yep. Even the best defenders in the world get caught out when there's too much to do - be that from lack of midfield defensive support or the failings of their defensive colleagues - so bringing the pair of them who are both individually good players and having them play behind Ndidi/Soumare with Soyuncu/Evans/Ricardo/Castagne supporting them, I'd imagine they'd fare far better than they did on the south coast.

They'll sell. They sold Ings and they'll sell him too for the right price.
