After today’s performances, we seem to have hit pay dirt yet again on…

 

- Daka

- Soumare

- Lookman

 

I am an optimist by nature, so hopefully the Southampton Two will also come around.

Also think the Saints two will come good. Rodgers is an expert man manager and hopefully get them playing with confidence again. 

Struck gold with Daka so far. Hit the ground running and he really is very humble, grateful for the opportunity. Hope he stays with us for a long time.

They will definitely have a part to play. Bertrand is going to be vital at points. im sure vestergarde will show up for us when nobody expects it as well. In certain conditions he is great... just never ever let someone run at him

Bertrand has had a few good games and then a few shockers. The talent is there though, and I've got faith he'll be able to turn it around. 

 

Vestergaard, on the other hand, I'm a little bit concerned by. Although in fairness, had Fofana not been injured then his role would have been VERY different and he's capable enough of playing that role as cover - just about - so its a bit harsh to judge him to that standard. That said we WILL need another CB in the next 12 months though as if one thing is for sure, Vestergaard is not the long term Evans replacement. Tarkowski still seems like the better option, but imagine he'll have plenty of clubs to choose from.

Bertrand and Vestergaard were presumably squad signings and I think Bertrand will be useful for squad depth later in the season.

 

However, I’d be inclined to at least give Benkovic a game or two to see if he can understudy the other three until Fofana is back. He may not be up to it, but at least we’d know. Even N’didi might be better cover than Jan V

It's a huge ask. Bertrand's decline in 2019/20 onwards has been stark. Think he's got 1 assist and zero goals in the best part of 2 years, so from an attacking point of view there's no point to him and certainly not in a wingback system. Defensively I thought and hoped he'd give this team a calm head and some no nonsense defending but so far since his return from covid he's been poor in that regard. I do expect that to improve though and maybe as a Fuchs type player (3rd/4th choice left back) he ought to be OK, but he should be nowhere near Castagne or Thomas and obviously Justin when he returns.

 

Vestergaard, we've dropped a clanger, he's just not suited to English football. Hasn't the strength or aggression to cope, was crap at Southampton and seems to be suffering even worse here and I fail to see how that changes. He can't play in a high line and yet Rodgers won't sacrifice that so he's going to be played for about a season where we suffer the portfolio of mistakes and poor defending and he'll be replaced as 4th choice in the summer. One of the worst players I've seen for us since we returned to the PL, he's dog shit.

Players take time. Have a look pre the last international break. People were saying Sourmare was a waste of money and not good enough. There was even a few comments about Daka. 

 

I imagine coming from another Prem team can be harder than coming in from abroad.

These two aren’t exactly spring chickens and weren’t getting good reviews from their club, I’ll give them time but I’m really not impressed and do fear we have ultimately wasted money

We shouldn't be buying in knock offs from Southampton but when everyone is fit, they're nowhere near the first 11 anyway. And that's what you get when bringing in backup.  No point having too many top class players in one position, will bring unrest.

The only problem with him being groomed as Vardy's heir is that Vards may have another two/three seasons left and Daka may attract attention from the 'big' clubs before then.

Fair enough, but getting the odd game here or there and a few minutes isn't exactly a fair run.

 

Not being a spring chicken would make it harder to adapt. 

 

They will have good games and poor as they aren't great but they are squad fillers. With everyone is fit they aren't in the team and probably only just in the match day squad.

.....felt that bringing in Vestergaard was a good option for his distribution....what I was not expecting was problems with his ability to defend!!!

Bertrand was also a surprise in regards to his performances, as he seemed very authoritative, in setting up deadball situations but seemed pretty weak and naïve, in some of his play, but i put it down to getting up to speed before the season started.

Did it need a new thread to state the obvious?  Thought we all knew it had been a pretty good window - despite Vesty. Think that’s why we’ve all been a little bit Prem-enstrual.

Want to see consistency from Soumare. He was diabolical v Legia and not great for 45 today. Second half he was dominant and was the exact player we’ve signed - a central midfield who can carry the ball
