Arriving at the ground which was bathed in some rare moments of December sunlight, I was quietly optimistic about this one, Newcastle being as dire as they are.

Then the loss of Evans, the early square ball across the face of goal by Söyüncü, followed by a spell of concerted pressure by the Toon (who were in good voice until the penalty) and the gloom accompanying our season was descending again around the ground. Credit to the team for lifting their game in the second half and playing some positive football albeit against woeful opponents.

This is one of those years when every game is a challenge and its best not to predict an outcome in any match. The top three are getting the job done but not finding it easy. We are certainly not great this season but neither are we that bad. Some better defending would have seen us with another half dozen points but we need to sort that out , today was a start. We musn't go overboard when we lose matches as long as we don't get thrashed.

Wow. That’s better! Madders finding form; Youri getting back in the groove; 20% more effort and determination on show from every single player. Add it all up and we look like we can win football matches, even without being close to our best.

Really good performance and excellent result. Losing Evans so early looked like it could be a hammer blow but credit the players for not letting it impact them and overall it was a convincing performance with 3 stunning team goals.

Cags was superb, Thomas was excellent. KDH brings so much energy to the side, Daka continues to improve with every minute he has on the pitch whilst Youri and Madders were sublime today.

let’s hope this is the blue print of how we are going to play for the rest of the season. We played with energy, tempo and purpose, and it delivered an excellent performance, win and critically a clean sheet.

Odd game today. Played well in patches and good game management - but wouldn’t call it a ‘performance’. Newcastle should be very concerned though - to get turned over by us at the moment like that was a shambles.

Well done though - it was a high prsssure game. And 8th feels a lot better than bottom half.

Good performance today. Before the game a poster on the Newcastle forum said none of their players would get in our team - apart from Maximilien, I tend to agree. But we did have a bit of luck to start us off. The penalty, like many others this weekend, should not have been given. But we took advantage of the decision, and went on to dominate the game.

Much needed win and clean sheet, even if they were shit.

My father in law died last month and this morning my mother in law brought round his old Leicester woolly hat and told me if I wore it today we'd win. I forgot until we were 2-0 up and I was convinced we'd fck it up again so I put it on. 2 goals in quick succession. That's for you Mo.

MO GOT MOJO!

That's one heck of a mother-in-law you've got, bless her!

Encouraging performance and convincing victory despite the loss of Evans early on.

Team responded well and defended as a unit.

Thomas had a fine game defensively and going forward. Read the game well especially to help set up the 3rd goal.

Maddison and Tielemans were brilliant. Connected well and assists/goals galore. Both took their goals very well.

Most of all just happy we kept a clean sheet too! Castagne nearly did his best to fvxk that right up but Kasper always had it covered .

I don't want people saying 'it was only Newcastle'. That's not fair on the team or Rodgers. If we didn't win it they'd probably get rightly criticised. But we won, did some basics very well, defended to put bodies on the line, were organised and attacked well. Players and staff deserve praise. You can only beat what's in front of you and we did that convincingly.

That was easily the best we've played since Man United. As people have said, Newcastle are shite and should be playing in the Championship next season (and for the following ten years if I had my way), but as any manager will tell you, you can only play the team in front of you - and we did that very well.

For me the plus points were (1) our clean sheet (about fecking time); (2) our defending in numbers; (3) Tielemans and Maddison both getting back to their best; (4) Daka shaping up to be a genuine Vardy replacement; and (5) four good goals to even up our GD. There were some negatives, notably our continuing habit of passing the ball back to Schmeichel from attacking positions, and giving the ball away in midfield, which happened a couple of times.

Just think what we will be like when we get Fofana and Justin back, and Iheanacho, Pereira, Evans etc all fully fit.

I've been fairly vocal in my belief that Rodgers wouldn't be able to change things around but that has mainly been down to his hesitation and unwillingness to address some of our main issues by making some noticeable changes.

Today he did that.

•We went for somewhat of a diamond but more noticeable than that, there was a distinct effort to play the ball forward quicker and with a bit more urgency at times.

•We played with more energy, and pressed better as a team. Particularly in midfield were KDH and Youri worked really hard for the team.

•Defensively we worked harder. Using midfielders and CBs to double up with FBs to stop crosses coming in.

•From set plays there was a noticeable change in how we lined up. Part zonal/part man marking. Alot more talking going on.

Listen, Newcastle are dreadful and our performance wasn't by any stretch of the imagination perfect. There is still more to work on and even then no garentee that the changes he makes will work but at least he's making a clear effort in addressing the issues that he's been ignoring for far too long. I can get behind his changes not working. I can't get behind making the same errors and poor decisions over and over again like we have been up until now.

Let's hope this is the start of our season really taking off.
