Don't remember any sideways passes between Evans/Wilf and Cags today. Back and forth over and over again. What a relief.

Much more willing to pass forward quickly and take risks. Crucial IMO. They were also much more aggressive all over the pitch. Hopefully this attitude continues.

Also helps when Maddison and Tielemans are on top form. Today they were unstoppable.

Newcastle are going to get rinsed in January, such a poor side. They need so many players, no PL is going to sell them anyone, foreign players may need to settle in and decent championship players may not step up.

By the way today at set pieces we were setup a bit differently. About time if you ask me!

It may or may not work out long term, but using the same approach every week was never going to work. Glad we've changed it up a bit.

Different how? We looked more aggressive attacking them but not sure what was different in the set up?

Aside from the one across the face of goal that nearly caused us to concede in the seventh minute?

Better.

Again, it was a poor Newcastle team but again that in itself is a positive as we've struggled against poor teams.

I think at times (very few times) Newcastle were the better team, had us under cosh, but we didn't need to get out of 2nd gear for most of the game, very little poor, negative, sideways or backwards passing...Timmy, That's why you don't needlessly pass back.

I'm starting to question whether Evans is the problem, as we've looked better without him than with him, but as discussed in the Evans thread I think it's quite clear he's playing through injury.

The happiest i've seen Youri and a few players in a long time aswell!

A bloody clean sheet. Wowzer. How shit must Newcastle be :crylaugh:

:fc: They go down.

I see there’s no ‘ do you want Rodgers to be sacked’ vote after today’s game….

Hardly surprising. We first and foremost WON but just as importantly, he made positive changes and made an effort to address issues we've been having for the best part of a calender year...

Appreciating when he does something right and acknowledging it is important but it doesn't mean that being pissed of about him making the same poor decisions over and over wasn't a legitimate opinion at the time.

The holier than thou "see I told you so" attitude we are seeing from some of you is just as pathetic as the people on here who wanted us to lose so that BR would be sacked. Both are more worried about being proved right than they are about the team.

The players who were playing zonal weren't our best in the air.

Our bigger players were marking their danger men whilst the rest went zonal.

Some sort of half and half.

1st half was two poor quality teams slugging it out.

2nd half we just killed off a very very poor team.

Good performance  considering, but the Yids game will be a decent test.

Let's not get TOO excited about this being the kickstart to the season yet...(hope so though)

CBs looked like they were man marking rather than zonally marking. Other players were zonal marking.

Perhaps I was just watching what I wanted to see lol. I will take another look at it later.

No your probably right, happy to bow to your superior tactical eye. Just didn't see it myself.

Perfectly put.

However I have to say he’s done this a few times now, changed things around with a focus on playing more attacking football only to switch it back to the patient and controlling style of play once he feels he’s out of trouble.

There were plenty until Evans went off.

Seemed a deliberate tactic for Kasper to kick long to Daka and for the rest to try to win the second ball. At least we were playing in their half and Kasper seemed more able to keep it on the pitch from a goal kick rather than from a hasty backpass after we'd tried to pass it round the back 4 for half an hour. Daka taller than Vardy I think so a legitimate try.

Aint that St maximim a player though?  What a talent. Unbelievable balance

Did he create a chance? I get a touch of the Adama’s with ASM.

I think the Evans sub proved a benefit as we ended up defending in a style which helps broken confidences rather than a style which plays on that confidence more. When it needed clearing, just clear it.

Helped that Newcastle showed a naivety that others did in 2016 mins.
