We’ve had a month to plan for new signings under the new manager. Ipswich have made a signing?

I doubt we do anything before we hear whether or not we're due further punishment.

If we have money to do anything at all I guarantee we do it late in the month.

It's not a race to be first!

The quicker you get a player signed the longer he has to work with the manager, be integrated into the squad and system, and the more points are available to play for with better players.

It is a race.

13th Jan? Too late, but sounds plausible

Well if people in certain positions conducting their jobs these deals should of been done and dusted. When the summer transfer window shut they should of been working their tits off ready for the window to open.

The club is a joke and I swear to God they don't actually start working until the last week in the window

Depends if you want players off your A list or C list.

Don’t these transfer count towards a different financial period?

Narh it's based on seasons not calendar years.

Probably buggared then. I mean, they’ve managed to bring in one coach for Ruud….. it’s not looking good for the transfer window is it?

Also, the better chance of beating other clubs to his signature.

Indeed they have but the brinkmanship that transfer windows encourage always makes the first 3 weeks of January a bit pointless.

If your strategy is to leave it to the last week / day to get a cheaper deal then you’ve already made a mistake

You can with good planning and communication with the selling club sign players at anytime. Lots of clubs do it but expect to pay more.

It’s the same in the summer window but it has everything to do with the people responsible for the recruitment and we’re led to believe JR has been away. It’s been the same repeated process for many years now and it’s clear not working.

Its been said on this forum for the last month, where is the money for a January recruitment drive? As much as I want to believe the squad as it exists can stay up, the reality is it just isnt good enough. Especially so given we have lost players like Ricardo and Fatawu who should and would've been important cogs in the survival bid. We are not going to dispose of players struggling to get into our 11 quickly and without pain.

The reality is, we are (as a minimum) two, three players away from being competitive at this level. In addition, new signings who can be added to the existing squad bring impetus and a good vibe feeling - it can make players here feel there is a want to grow/compete at this level.

The club is going to have to take some sort of risk this window. Otherwise, we are down. That risk is either going to be breaching PSR and being ready to face the consequences or selling an asset to bring in a few new faces. Its not a case of wanting to sell, its having to sell. I think that is where we are. Do I trust our recruitment team/leadership - no. We are potentially having to roll the dice again and that is never a good look but doing nothing like the 22/23 summer when Wolves and Ipswich have already strengthen and Palace sit with a better squad than ours is a far bigger risk for me.

I miss the mid-table battle for 7th with Burnley under Puel - Midtable mediocrity in the PL doesn get the credit it deserves! The last 6/7 league seasons have been quite tiresome to be honest.

There has been 2 permanent and 1 loan signing in the premier league as of 5th Jan just 5 days into the window, we are hardly lagging behind the rest.

Surely the club know that already when they submitted their latest adjusted accounts at the end of December? 🤷‍♂️

We need players though? The clubs at the top end have quality players even in mid table they have a lot of strength in depth it’s a totally different ball game so yes we are lagging behind the rest, if we want to have a chance to survive in this league.

The club know what THEY think of their finances.

We're waiting for the league to tell us what their verdict is.

If the two were always the same, we wouldn't have been in dispute with two separate governing bodies in the last year.

The money comes from banking on selling Hermansen in June for £40m + i presume and even then might not be enough.

All depends whether we needed to do that already. We spent £80m by my estimates last summer, which over 5 years is £16m in amortised costs for 2024/25. We had a few players drop off such as Praet (£4m) and Vestergaard we're £5m a year on PSR better off and hopefully saved more in wages.

I think we need to get one of Faes or Coady out this month, likewise Edouard, Hamza and possibly Thomas and we can then look to get a couple of loans and a couple of players at £10m a piece.
