That is the big question, and I honestly don’t know. I’ve posted my thoughts on Rodgers previously, the good and bad aspects. But it is undeniable that our form compared to those below us, such as Newcastle and Burnley, make us very vulnerable.
FoxesWalk Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Not worried at the moment, but that could change. No doubt we deserve to be there though, arguably lucky not to be lower. Performances are improving though. Hopefully results will follow. 2

Those mentioning Leeds and then saying “they’re in free fall”, well, so are we? We’re not winning football matches. It’s one thing playing well against the likes of Wolves, who will give you a bit of time on the ball, but playing teams like Burnley is a different thing all together. They’re scrapping for every point, throwing all they can into each game, at the moment we can’t match that, we’re mentally weak and defensively frail, both are a recipe for disaster. To think we will pick up points against against the lower teams just because they’re in the bottom cluster of clubs is fairly naive. I really don’t fancy us against Burnley at all…. Everyone knows we can’t defend, get balls in and around our penalty area and we will likely concede. We have lost 1 in 9 at home whilst apparently not playing well. It is ridiculous to think we can’t get sufficient points from the home games we have left against bottom half teams. 1

foxfan92 Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Some of us need to behave. We're having an awful season, but we're not in a relegation battle by any stretch of the imagination. Let's look at the full picture here, we've games in hand on a lot of those teams below us (3 on Brentford) and still 7 points which means many teams below us will have to significantly improve their form and we've got to not pick up any points for 5 or 6 games while multiple teams go on winning runs for those games too. By that logic we could also say if we won out 3 games in hand that we have on West Ham and Arsenal we'd only be 6 points off 5th place and pushing for a spot in the European places at the top end of the table. What is going to happen this season is neither of those. We'll stick around midtable with patches of form mixed with a lot of the rubbish we've witnessed thus far this season. It's not as exciting as the fight for a champions league place when playing more consistently well (for at least for the first half of both seasons) over the last two seasons, but it's where we are now. We've just got to hope for some return to form once our squad is less depleted and (if not before) after the new season starts. 2
Gubbins Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 The primary worry indeed pretty much the only reason this thread exists is that regardless of how we play, we concede at least twice every single game. The fact that we need to score 3 to have even a chance of a win is not encouraging and even though we prob only need 9/7 points to stay up we need to score at least 3 in maybe a third of our remaining fixtures to achieve it. It suddenly looks a lot more daunting. 1

TrentFox Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Looking at the fixtures coming up for teams at the bottom, by the time we’ve lost at Burnley, the table could easily make for horrific reading 😳😳
foxinsox Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 If you want a cheering up, then have a chat with an Everton, Brentford, Leeds or Newcastle fan. It did me no end of good, the Everton fan was particularly despondent, the Toon fan rather twitchy too.

I was being sarcastic, obviously? (I'd go on about this being an English footy forum where that should go without saying, but then I'd probably get myself into trouble for/by being quarter French, somehow )

Lose against Burnley and the club really don’t have a choice, Rodgers will have to be sacked otherwise he will send us down. And I genuinely don’t think we will beat Burnley, they’re everything we can’t cope with at the moment, big nasty bastards who are good in the air. Reading this post, makes me realise we are building a squad to win the premier league again. When they ban heading in football. Ooops just realised how many chances Randers created from open play. Back to the drawing board then.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 February 2022 Posted 25 February 2022 It turns the Burnley game into a potential ‘6 pointer’. Burnley who are on a run of form, us who are ‘off-form’ We need to beat them and to stop this rot gaining any more momentum

Mike Oxlong Posted 25 February 2022 Posted 25 February 2022 The drastic downturn in form and performances can’t just be down to injuries. I reckon one of the monks caught Sue Whelan taking a poop on his cornflakes.

We made hard work of Norwich previously and didn't deserve the full three points against Brentford either. That was before Rodgers really started to weave his magic again. He used to leave it until around Christmas until he revealed his King Midas into reverse trick (turning gold into shit). Perhaps this year he's saving the best til last? 1

Royston. Posted 25 February 2022 Posted 25 February 2022 Nailed on Burnley win. If we can somehow make it past this weekend still 7 points clear it will be massive

If we can somehow make it past this weekend still 7 points clear it will be massive Watford are away at Man Utd and Norwich are away at Southampton. Both home wins on paper. Newcastle are away at Brentford and Burnley are away at Palace. All 4 teams to take points from each other. Everton have got Man City at home and Leeds have got Spurs at home. As a predection I'd say two away wins as, although Spurs aren't in great form, they will pick an open Leeds off. Loads of points to be lost this weekend without us even playing. I think people forget, while we are "only" 7 points off the bottom three these teams below us actually have to play each other also.
winteriscoming Posted 25 February 2022 Posted 25 February 2022 Please don’t use the we’ve got games in hand. We haven’t won this year and we don’t look like winning any time soon. 1
