FosseSpark Posted 18 July 2022 Posted 18 July 2022 It feels like it's necessary as a signal of change. i don't think we are in a position to lose a £25m+ asset for nothing (Soyuncu) and bring in someone no better for real cash. I'm betting that Rodgers is working on keeping Soyuncu, telling him that with Ndidi, KDH, Tielemans and decent fullbacks his life is going to be a lot more fun....

I would say any of the top 6 teams would now be happy to sell to us with no really threat. Especially for players not in their plans. I would have thought Chalobah and Colwill are firmly in their plans particularly as their current CBs are getting on a bit.

They currently have Silva, Koulibaly, Sarr, Chalobah, Ampadu, Colwill - and Reece James can play at right centre back in a 3, then also Azpilicueta if he doesn’t go to Barcelona They are trying to add at least 1 possibly 2 more to that who would start ahead all of those except Silva and Koulibaly That is A LOT of players ahead of Colwill, who are all older and more experienced Edited 18 July 2022 by moore_94 1
An Sionnach Posted 18 July 2022 Posted 18 July 2022 They do have a big gap between the two masters and their young pupils agewise , Soyuncu would have the right profile in age and experience We shall see what happens no doubt over the next few weeks.

One of the Turkish clubs will come in for him late in the window and offer to take him off us for bugger all to compensate for matching his current wages

Chelsea are getting Kimpembe and Kounde. Chalobah will be back up and Colwill will probably move on.
RowlattsFox Posted 18 July 2022 Posted 18 July 2022 Of all the positions, surely centre is the one we'd have to sell/loan out before anyone comes in?

We are really probably only looking for Vestergaard out and 1 other in. I think Rodgers is definitely intent on coaching Soyuncu back into the team and losing 1 of Amartey or Vestegaard Fofana - First choice Evans - First Choice Soyuncu - Lacks confidence Ndidi - Weakens midfield to play him as CB Amartey - Energetic, but not very good Nelson - inexperienced Brunt - Inexperienced Justin - Only in a 3 If we keep Amartey is 5th choice then we need 1 more, if Soyuncu doesn't improve we need 2. We should not let Vestergard anywhere near the matchday squad.

Having him play at center back is the route of all evil, as you've said. Same for Justin, really. In truth, IF we could get the set piece situation sorted, Fofana, Evans, Soyuncu, Amartey and even Vestergaard should be enough to cover the two center back positions, with no European football tbh. If one leaves, we'll have to replace them.
CosbehFox Posted 18 July 2022 Posted 18 July 2022 Big fan of how Nelson is lauded as a potential PL player already. The kid hasn't played a minute of competitive blokes footy. He's miles off; albeit great prospect he is. 1

Exactly the same as Brunt, played one competitive game of football at the age of 21 against a Watford C team and now hes the next Tony Adams Edited 18 July 2022 by South Shire Fox

Soyuncu has not signed a new contract and did not get a kick at the end of last season after his subissive challenge in the Spurs game. To me Rodgers wants rid of Soyuncu and Vestegaard. He seems to trust Amartey a lot more as a back up but I think would let him go to. He wants one new centre back for sure; i reckon he'd rather have two.

Saw bits of the game verses Everton in the US at the weekend and thought he looked really lively 1
