That's assuming none of our players get injured this season which they will.

Sure some will get injured.

But anyone can see with a reduced scheduled compared to the last 2 seasons, you're likely to see fewer serious ones. Mainly on the basis that there will be more recovery time between fixtures...

Stop sulking and sort our comedy set piece defending out Brendan.

Never mind avoiding injuries, if we can just avoid being a laughing stock at corners we can make champions league with the points we threw away last season :scarf:

You do realise we are weaker already than last season right?

This is a huge shot in the dark from me but I have a sneaking suspicion other teams' players will also be a year older

We’ve lost ademola ….. but gained dennis ……..

Lookman got more goals and assists in his 1 season at Leicester than Praet has got over the last 2-3 years

Works both no? Fofana, Barnes and Maddison a year more mature. Maddison probably playing the best he has done at Leicester

I've got no stats to base this on other than gut feel but having 10 players out of contract with a good chunk not interested in renewing or we don't want to renew is not the ground for a prosperous season either. Let's not pull pissers here, making no new signings this summer would be horrendous.

Don’t confuse making signings with strengthening the squad. I can think of a few teams who are weaker now than the squad that finished last season.

Spot on, and we don’t always agree, but your right on the money here ! Burnley were in the exact same predicament last year lots of lads on contracts running down and that led to a drop off in effort, and we all know how that ended, we have a very toxic storm building here, new signings might help deal with the storm, lack of new faces will for me be horrendous and leave us in a very very tough spot

Absolutely. Even just 2 new players in key positions could ignite this club once again. The majority of them still seem to want to be here and play for Brendan but even just a small percentage who are tailing off and it's a very difficult job to get the momentum going again. It's going to be a very interesting next 12 months.

John Percy in the Telegraph this morning reckons main targets are Colwill, Madueke and some lad from Celtic. Frankly, if we get the first two then that will be mission accomplished for this window as far as I'm concerned, and would be much happier going into this season.

I think all the talk about rebuilds and refreshes was a mistake from Rodgers, and I hope he learns from it for future windows - I think if we'd gotten to this point without making a signing, and he hadn't been talking up this idea of a rebuild, then there wouldn't be so much pressure on him.

I've been quite a harsh critic of Rodgers over the last season, but genuinely hope that with a couple of signings, players returning to fitness and no European games to contend with, he might be able to turn things around this season and push us on again.

I guess we should have stuck with Puel then if he would have been just as capable of getting us 5th place. Or shall we see if Mr Duck is available for the upcoming season?

...Puel had lost the dressing room, day by day it was becoming more and more toxic at the club!!!

Puels eventual departure was a relief, but we still hold his players in our team today.

I think it was very clever of him actually. Whether he knew or not that we'd struggle to bring in enough players to warrant calling it a rebuild/refresh, he now has a ready made excuse to fall back on should the season go badly. That may be being over cynical but I imagine that's his thinking.

On the more positive side of the coin, perhaps it was to put pressure on the club to back him again?

I think he did it to take pressure off himself for the poor results at the back end of last season, and - like you say - I assume he will point to lack of activity this summer if results fail to go our way at the start of this season.

Thing is, I can't imagine that any of this is going down particularly well with the board, who are essentially being forced to carry the can instead of Rodgers. It might give him a temporary reprieve, but can't go on forever.

The article on Fosse Way had spot on. It's an accurate assessment but 1) don't say it when the fundamentals of a decent team are still here 2) fans don't like their team being talked down

We strengthened our squad last summer. With Soumare, Vestergaard, and Bertrand.

Agree that signings do not alway equal improvement

That wasn't his point though.

The original point he quoted was "Donald Duck" could have achieved what Rodgers did. And that's wrong. If it was that easy then Puel would have done it, which is the point.

I think Donald Duck should have achieved those league positions given the quality of the other squads around us and what he had available to him at those particular times.

It was him, his style of play, tactics, teams selections and substitutions that cost us 4th two years running. I think a number of other managers could have achieved that quite easily with what we had at the time.

I don't expect us to be top 6 this season due other teams strengthening over this and last year but, even with what we got, without any incomers, to flirt with relegation would be unacceptable and down to him and him alone. We still have a lot of talent if utilised correctly. For all his coaching input, I don't see many of our players having actually improved under his tutelage, on the contrary, I think some have gone the other way. His failure to address set peice issues after all this time would again tend to point to coaching failure as much as anything else. You can't just point the finger at players and ask for a new set who can just come and do it on there own, a coach has to actually do something about it. He's a legend in his own lunchtime, all fur coat and no knickers.

This is rubbish and I hate this take. If football was that easy then clubs wouldn't try and get the best managers they can.

Teams don't make a manager, a manager makes a team.
