Better for us, thats for sure. Dont recall Fofana making this much of a difference, or being consistent for so long.

Fofana is a top, top prospect but as someone said, he’s a number 2 CB whilst Faes is a leader.

 

Faes is exactly what we needed when we were defensively all at sea.

 

Faes and Fofana would have genuinely been a top 4 CB pairing? Crazy thought.

He fits what we need more than Fofana for sure. Fofana will go on to be exceptional, but right now we benefit from Faes and his aggression.

Slightly different types of defenders for me.

 

I'd say Fofana is more skillful and competent at bringing it out from the back, whereas Faes is more old skool Huth/Morgan type.

 

I love how Faes celebrates making tackles/clearances and he clearly loves his craft.

 

I'm a big fan of both tbh.

In terms of what they can offer to us absolutely

 

For us the leadership that Wout shows is absolutely vital, makes a massive difference to how we defend

 

I expect Fofana will still develop into a world class centre back (if he can stop picking up bad injuries) but when he plays he still needs a leader like Wout or Evans next to him

Fofana is a Roll Royce of a player and a better footballer.

 

Faes, is a better defender, team player and leader.

 

Rather then a Fofana replacement he may well be Jonny Evans replacement interms of organisation and leadership

As I’ve  said previously I think Fofana is possible the better player but Faes is far the better defender and brings some leadership and steal to the back line . Got the feeling he’s one of those that’s hard as nails but doesn’t shout about it .
