We won against a bang average side.  We won't beat France.  But I have really enjoyed this world cup even though the shocks have dried up.

We could but will we just return to playing pure defensive stuff and putter out again?

Blimey. I'm not meaning to diminish his achievements but that shows how badly England have underachieved at international level. Shocking really.

It does and that’s why it’s so great seeing these players. This squad and staff make getting through games like this Easy.

You could argue that not sticking with the players that got him this far would be a bigger insult, no?

You could do but those players are Jack Grealish and Mason Mount, so, no.

If we do beat France - and I accept it's a big if - then I will be 100% convinced we will win the world cup.
And then Switzerland will knock us out on penalties.

Madders will get 5 minutes when we are 2 down to France and swamp donkey horse face is out of ideas and has one last chance to throw somebody under the bus.

Absolutely. Surprised at some of the negative comments. Bar the US game, the team have played really well. Scored loads of goals so seems strange to me that there's still people saying we're negative.

Find it strange that people dont seem to care about England are going to the effort of posting on here. If you didnt care then surely you wouldn't even open the thread let alone comment?

Scored 12 goals, conceded 2… I would say we are on track

Genuinely not looking for silly replys here (a longshot) I know.

But footballing wise, Madders or no Madders what do Jack Grealish and Mason Mount actually bring?

Do you think fans of the other 71 league clubs are saying the same thing after the tournament's best record after 4 games? Or is it just because he's not playing someone that plays for your club that you're crying?

I think alot of other teams fans are saying the same thing yes.

It's not because of maddison...

A poor manager, that has done more at major tournaments than all bar 1 previous manager.

A poor manager that has the best record of any manager so far at this World Cup.

A poor manager that has overseen us scoring more and conceding less than any other team at this World Cup so far.

Yes he has his floors, but he knows how to manage at a major tournament.

Yes. Against lesser sides. The only team of any note he's ever beat is Germany and they've been a shambles for about 8 years.

Can’t really complain really. And that’s coming off someone whose not a huge fan of Southgate.

We look for the most part to be know what we are doing ala like the Germans used to do. The opposition is irrelevant to that point. We’ve had find answers and we’ve done so - thankfully it’s less away from the set piece led stuff of 2018

He's achieved the bare minimum unfortunately so won't be out.

He's like that tosser at uni who does no work all year yet passes the exam

The luck he's had with draws the last 3 tournaments was insane. Always lost to the first semi decent side we came up against though. People like to chuck all these 'records' in your face without realising the teams we've faced.

3 superb goals tonight too. People would be having a wank if it was Brazil or Argentina scoring those goals.

I've never been a huge fan of Southgate but it seems daft not to give credit where credit is very clearly due.

No it’s not luck. That’s the nature of the beast.

England have had problems before with such groups. Knock him for performances past the groups but the quality of opposition isn’t an argument against Southgate.

Completely agree. Southgate hasn't got much wrong this tournament for me other than starting with Sterling.

to beat France we need to keep the 3 attacking forwards

Will be interesting to see what Southgate does. I think he will go back to 3 at the back, but we look good in the 4231, with the font line of any of our 5/6 forwards. France have looked very good in all of their serious games, but have looked vulnerable at the back too.
