England have played well from about the 35 min mark, Bellingham, Foden and Kane all great.

Leicester bias and even merit aside I think not bringing on Maddison, Gallagher or Coady is a mistake from Southgate. I thought the same thing when he didn’t bring Chilwell on in the Euros, it just strikes me as purely self-defeating. Mount, Grealish etc don’t need more underwhelming minutes for England in a game like this, the upside you get from bringing in Maddison both from what he can offer and the morale boost for him and probably those around him far outweighs the benefits of giving a bit more game time to established squad members. Doesn’t come across as inclusive at all.

Also worth mentioning it creates competition for places, which is healthy. I get we have established players, but nobody in the squad should feel they are undroppable, even Kane. Mount has underperformed recently, but he knows his place in the first 15 players we call on is certain, so why try, why bust a gut. Just go through the motions because you don't need to try harder, you can't lose that spot.

The bare minimum? In the entire history of the England football team he's managed our 2nd and joint 3rd best tournaments in terms of progression.

As in this tournament. The only way he was leaving was an exit pre QF. He's got there so there's no chance of the sack

Give the ball to Mbappe and make him run at Maguire.

Which is okay, if they have the ball. How do deal with Kane?

To be 3-0 up and bring Grealish and Mount on instead of Maddison, when Maddison has better stats that the pair of them this season put together, is genuinely insulting.

You could argue that not sticking with the players that got him this far would be a bigger insult, no?

I agree with this. You want players to be eager and ready. Especially in a short tournament. I mean it’s great for us that he doesn’t play, but on a personal level I want him to, because he’s been sensational for us recently, and has been comfortably the stand out English player for some time. So, it seems illogical to now even try him.

Most of the time he gets it right, just in the later stages there are times we could do a bit more and maybe against a france you need to take a risk or two. Felt if we did take more risks against Italy we would have won it

Agreed. I really hope he doesn't go with a back 3 against France, that would be a huge error for me. Firstly, we don't do 3 at the back very well and more importantly, we have the attacking players to hurt France. I really hope he favours bravery over conservativism when it comes to that game.

Against Senegal…. Who have all but given up. Ideal opportunity to try a few different ideas.

Because when he comes up against better teams he will fall into the trap of making the same choices… rather than reacting to what is happening on the pitch.

Bringing a player on for 15 mins isn’t going to create new ideas.

If Maddison came on and got injured you’d blame Southgate for bringing him on in a game that was already finished.

Well done England, great win and thoroughly deserved.

Get past France and I think we might win it!

People say everyone is a shite manager these days if they don’t make the exact decisions or player the same players that they would play. it doesn’t make it true though does it.

At the end of the day it’s a results business and As you say Deschamps has won the World Cup and Southgate has got to a final of the Euros and Semi of the World Cup - a poor manager doesn’t do that.

Deschamps has won Southgate has won nothing yet

I do admit I have an unreasonable about of dislike for Southgate. And sweet Caroline. But…. Surely he gets a go? Why take him? He’s the statistically the best English attacking player? So surely he is worth at least a portion of a second half when the games dead….

Southgates won more knockout games than Venables, Hoddle, Keegan, Sven, Capello, Hodgson combined

But he didn’t bring Maddison on for 15 minutes so let’s take this with a pinch of salt

All those other managers moved on, not wanting to stay, Southgate knows this is as good as he gets

Blimey. I'm not meaning to diminish his achievements but that shows how badly England have underachieved at international level. Shocking really.

But everyone was calling for his head after the USA game lol

He's negative, boring and doesn't play to the sides strengths.

In previous tournaments, he's been incredibly lucky with the draw.

Next Saturday will be a true test.

I've never liked him, I never will.

No club side would employ him.
