In pure football terms Croatia were way ahead of Brazil - they had a plan, stuck to it as a unit and believed to the end. Well done.

Brazil have the individuals but in no way did they have the best strategy today. Seemed too reliant on something magical happening

Croatia's experience is carrying them through. They've been through so many pen shoot outs. In the 120 min Brazil were the better side. But Croatia are so well oiled and experienced

This is the business end of world football.

Most international teams, only play lesser opposition 90% of the time, so get hyped up like crazy.

Any of the remaining teams are capable of winning this (maybe Morocco aside).

This might be a thick question but is there anything stopping a team changing the order of their takers once the shootout's begun, like do they have to give the officials a list with the order on or something? Granted it wouldn't be ideal to be shuffling them around but surely if the idea behind leaving your supposed best taker until last is that they're the one best suited to taking the big pressure penalty, once it becomes apparent you need to score to stay in you'd want to bump him up the order.

Neymar not taking a penalty is an absolute joke. Captain and best player should be #1 to build confidence.

They missed the first pen and could never recover, and he sits on the sidelines crying but never taking one…

Neymar genuinely distraught. I can't help but feel a tiny bit sorry for him. Only a bit though.

Has to take a pen though surely? Can’t be waiting in case there’s a 5th purely for glory

Poor lad, he's only won the Copa America, Champions League and Copa Libertadores and gets paid 500 million a week.

Neymar showing his true colors even in defeat.  It takes a lifetime of practice in hitting the grass to make a moment like this SO PERFECT

Tough on Brazil.

Once again the superior mentality of the Croatians comes up trumps.

It's amazing that they've reached two consecutive semi-finals without winning a single of those four ties needed to get there.
