It may well stand up under various different bits of criminal legislation.  Someone stated above that this kid has admitted intent?  I find that hard to believe but if he did then the police could get involved.  As I said above in fact recklessness alone is enough under s47 offences against the person Act.  So intent or no there's certainly prima facie something to investigate.

A civil case could be brought against Voice personally as well.  Wolves as his employer would be liable vicariously for any damages awarded.

It may not be the done thing but at what point is the line crossed beyond competitive sport, accidents, poor or poorly timed challenges and basically just pretty blatant violence?  When that line is crossed is the difficult question, but when crossed action should be taken IMO.

On the other hand social media abuse of the player and his family as someone has stated is just appalling and pointless.

I totally missed the guy's comments but also read something that intimated he said something controversial. Does anyone know where we can find it?

But the thing is, as you've said, we shouldn't be abusing the kid, however bad the challenge was. Yes, it was an horrific act of thuggery, but everyone steaming in with abuse, threats and piling into his family is just sad and abhorrent. It doesn't matter if he's the nicest kid in the world or the planet's biggest bell piece.

Instead, we should be channelling our energies into messages of support for Will and encouraging the FA to investigate the tackle.

I’m from Leeds (as you’ve probably guessed), we play teams from Teeside, Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester. They come and play so much different to us, actually trying to injure people. Borderline assault many times and they absolutely hate it when you give it back.

Know a few lads who play for Main Line, and the stories of their encounters with sides from those places you’ve mentioned in the national cup make your hairs stand on end.

Just very odd behaviour isn't it?  A sad reflection on society and the ills of social media.

Wolves should make a public statement even if only to confirm they are dealing with the player internally. Wonder what referee report will say

Yeah, some players (not just football) seem to think that being on the playing field does shield them from the law. Like that weirdo rugby league player who was famous for literally inserting his finger in the anus of opposition players - in other words sexual assault.

Is there any connection?

I am astonished that I am seeing people compare this to the vardy and Perez challenges. Are people that bloody clueless.

You’re always going to get whataboutism. Best ignored.

fwiw Wolves forum are saying Caden apologised to Will.

"The family would like to me to thank you guys for the support Caden has received this afternoon. He apologised to the player straight after the game (which I understand was accepted by the LCFC player) and deeply regrets the tackle. Caden has not had a yellow prior to this, let alone a red."

Apparently Nino ‘apologised’ to Fofana too. They are made to do it for PR so means nothing if it’s a forced apology. Doesn’t mean he feels remorseful.

Normally the word "whataboutism" is a weak defence when people are pointing out obvious hypocrisy, this doesn't even come to that because the Vardy and Perez tackles were clearly not the same thing. But I'm nitpicking...

This is violence, not a bad tackle or a late challenge. If I was the Wolves academy manager I would kick him out, simple. I hope this is looked at by the FA and the appropriate action is taken.

Spot on - there’s no place for this in the game. It needs stamping out with a ban at least commensurate with Will’s rehabilitation - personally I agree with you

I remember Wesalowski was it breaking his leg at Celtic in pre-season? Was that deliberate, I never saw that one.

What's the thoughts amongst wolves fans on this? Alves not Wesolowski.

Sounds b*******

no way entire youth team squad, Maddison and ex players basically all come out and call it disgusting unless club are furious

Provably malicious tackles should come with a much higher sanction than simply a red card. Especially in youth stages - a tackle as vicious and disgusting as that one should be punished with a ban as long as the recovery of the injured player.

Should be made to donate all his wages towards Alves treatment even though it may barely cover anything. Ban him for 1 year.

Cxnt.

Look what has happened to our Justin and Ricardo since their ACL injury!!! I genuinely feel we have lost a great talent. His quick feet may never recover.

Clear malice. Not many has it in them to even think about doing it at the time. F off.

yes i understand that certain abuse goes to far but social media is genuinely good for changing a person. in the past this probably would have been nothing to caden and he would probably do something similar again. I’d like to think after the massive backlash he would truly rethink his actions.

I saw a few people mention james wesolowski, that tackle genuinely messed up his career. There was no real heat for Balde and he probably never thought about it again.

I hope caden loses his career over this, but if he doesn’t, i hope he genuinely learns and thinks twice about his actions. He is still a kid and you have to hope he can change.

One of my old team mates plays for Mainline. Beat a Scouse team on Sunday (ropey do by all accounts). Sunday football can be either hell or be Semi Pro players playing together for an extra £50.

We won the Yorkshire league back in the day, full of ex pros, semi pro players and it wasn’t the traditional ‘Sunday League’. It was better than many would ever experience on a Saturday. Micah Richards dad managed one side. One side had a bloke who played for Leeds, and another who played for Monaco (Centre Halves).

Used to love it.

I am not so sure that anything would stand up in a. Criminal  court however I’d  be interested to know if he has a case for loss of earnings based off of his projected career progression…
