I don't think it's intentional not to do so. Our best performances under Rodgers tend to be when playing that way, save for some counter attack masterpieces away to Man City and Leeds during Covid. Why don't we play it anymore? Well when is the last time we had the full compliment of Ndidi, Castagne, Ricardo, Maddison, Tielemans, Perez even all up to match speed and fully fit? I genuinely can't remember. That's the thing abut a high press, to get it working it needs to be done as a team. Look at any time Lampard has tried it and gotten it wrong, it's because at Chelsea and Everton the press was not cohesive. Even at Liverpool it breaks down for similar reasons. At one point when we were 3rd in the table, Ricardo and Ndidi led the division for number of tackles and interceptions made, meaning we were winning the ball back often. I expect the summer rebuild regardless of what division we are in will involve players with great running and tackling stats as a result. TBH though in writing all this it makes signings of Vestergaard and Soumare all the more questionable. Jannick is too slow and Soumare did't run, though he has started to improve on this. 1

Your last point is a good one because we’ve had huge injury issues for a few seasons yet many of the signings we’ve made aren’t the type of players you’d want in a pressing style. Seems to be a disconnect at all levels at the minute. 1

Agree, it seems like we find it harder to press now because we don’t retain the ball enough and are more often chasing after opponents and the ball; alas missing players like maddison and ricardo, who buy you that extra time by having the ability and confidence to hold onto the ball and turn into space. Really missed watching this through maddison and Ricardo lately. 1

Jono1604 Posted 25 January 2023 Posted 25 January 2023 (edited) Why would Leeds sell to a relegation rival just another name being thrown about to make the club look busy when inevitably we will end up with nobody all to late in the day! Edited 25 January 2023 by Jono1604 1

LVFox Posted 25 January 2023 Posted 25 January 2023 I agree, 10 minutes ago, Grebfromgrebland said: Can't blame Rodgers for that can we? I agree, I point way more blame at Rudkin for our failures than Rodgers if i'm honest, but it just stinks of the Perez transfer. Decent player, massively overpaid. Saying that, looks like Harrisons agent is using us for a new contract, no real story behind this at all. 1

Really missed watching this through maddison and Ricardo lately. Another big difference is that so many more teams press nowadays. Newcastle, Brighton and Brentford being great examples. If you try and press against a team that is better at pressing than you... it gets ugly fast. When Norwich first came up, Farke had them playing pressing football. First game was against Liverpool and they got done 5-0, even though they had a go at them.
Maybes Posted 25 January 2023 Posted 25 January 2023 Hoping this is just a deflection tactic to ease negotiations for other targets. £35m for Jack Harrison IMO would be horrible business. 2
STUHILL Posted 25 January 2023 Posted 25 January 2023 I still think it is his agent pushing for a new bumper deal at Leeds. Valuing his own player at £35m with transfer gossip. He will stay at Leeds at least until the summer, and likely sign a new deal if they stay up. 1

trooky Posted 26 January 2023 Posted 26 January 2023 No way Leeds will sell to us, our attempt to sign players is farcical. 5 days left in the window and we're no closer to getting the CB, RW, GK, and back up LW we desperately need

Has somebody senior at the club told you that?
Deeg67 Posted 26 January 2023 Posted 26 January 2023 FWIW Jesse said in his presser that Harrison was a vital player for Leeds and isn't going anywhere. Whatever you think of him as a manager he's generally not a bullshltter.

Clarkey123 Posted 26 January 2023 Posted 26 January 2023 It’s painful when you see Villa are being linked with Brazilian wingers like this for more than likely the same price or less

Unless they’re planning on firing him soon, they’re not going to sell a guy out from under him that he wants to keep. And based on the fact that they’ve been buying players he wants, it doesn’t seem like they’re planning on that.
