Ward

Castagne - Souttar - Faes - Kristiansen

Mendy - Tielemans

Tete - Maddison - Barnes

Iheanacho

Tete gives us so much balance. Kristiansen gives us a lot of reliability and dependency already after such a short time.

Mendy needs to play. I like KDH but he's the one that is sacrificial as we definitely need someone to help shield the defence.

The front 4 could become electric when they're on it. Spurs' defence is susceptible and can be got at. A threat from both wings and centrally. Give Kelechi the service and he'll return, he'll also provide some service too and deliver.

I’d go for this tool but Tielemans gets dropped for KDH because the latter gives you much more in the engine room.

Big fan of Ndidi but he doesn’t suit our passing game so Mendy gets the nod.

Good balanced team and can defo get a result if we turn up.

Happens all the time with some goalkeepers. Only one howler gets shown on match of the day and everyone thinks it's all they do.

Unfortunately our goalkeeper is genuinely as shit as everyone else thinks he is.

Lloris has made numerous howlers this season and, as my Spuds mate pointed out, he's amongst the worse performing keepers statistically as well.  Still capable of a worldy but he has been pretty abject at times.

He's not the slightest bit bothered he's out for this game because he feels his confidence is shattered at the moment and that Forster can't really perform much worse at the moment.  Hopefully he's wrong and Forster has a mare.

Romero a much bigger miss.

Weird one as I thought Lloris made some really crucial saves in the world cup.

Agree on Ward through, if anything MOTD makes him look better than he actually is somehow!

I think we will struggle to see Barnes and Tete both starting in any of the next 3 games. Maddison from the left instead of Barnes IMO.

They started against Villa though and we were very good going forward. It wouldn't make sense to shift Maddison out to the other wing when he's best played centrally.

Spurs can beat us as much as they want and Harry Kane can score as many as he wants but nothing will ever beat that sweet, sweet sensation of going up there and shithousing a one-nil with a last minute Robert Huth bullet header and winning the league. What a fixture.

There was an amazing video from the away end as Huth planted his feet as the cross came in and walloped it in, followed by absolute pandemonium in the crowd.

I wish I'd downloaded it at the time because I can't find it anywhere anymore.

Brendan Rodgers Pre-Match Press Conference vs Spurs

New Super League?

“To be fair, I’ve been training so I’ve not seen any of that news. The message that will be given will be similar to the last one. European football cannot intrude on domestic football. It was about the merits of the qualification. That would be key in any reform. It’s something I’ve not looked too much into.”

Surprised it's come back?

“Not really. It was clear in this country what the supporters thought of it. But I don’t think it will go away. There is reform in 2024 of the Champions League and various other forms of the game. I don’t expect it to go away. We have to keep a close eye on it. Domestic football, supporters don’t deserve that to be intruded on.”

Soyuncu and Turkey earthquake?

“Yeah, it’s been awful for him. Speaking to him this week and looking at some of the images he’s shown me, it’s devastating. He’s had no close family there thankfully. But he understands the grief of back home. He’s coping the best we could hope for. He knows he has our support. From a personal level, he’s trying to do everything he can.”

New signings?

“Having experienced winning teams, that’s what we needed. The three guys have brought freshness, balance and competition. With players coming back, we’re hoping to push on. It was a fantastic win. We weren’t perfect but we showed lots of quality. We showed resilience to come from behind twice. We deserved to win.”

Tete?

“You can tell he watches football and has a great knowledge of the game. It’s our job to support any player who comes in, whatever language they speak. He understands the position really well. His appetite to work and run, it made for a great debut. The longer he has with us, that will improve.”

Kane?

“He has absolutely everything. He’s a world-class player. It’s not just the consistency. He’s been relentless. It’s not by accident. It’s hard work on the training field. He’s got every tool that you would want as a top striker. He scores goals, he links the game, he’s tough, he’s mentally strong. He’s a brilliant player, a great leader.”

Spurs?

“We’ve played them before and won before. We understand their strengths. They’re very good on the counter. They have good speed and can make the final pass. Against teams like Spurs, you have to concentrate. We were well in the game for 70 minutes at their place. Then we showed naivety. We showed we can score goals. With a home crowd behind us...”

Think about balance in midfield?

“Yeah, most definitely. The one thing I would say is you need to be able to win the ball in the midfield, but you also need to keep it. The strength of the midfield is about the three players. They have to look after each other. You need to win the ball but that’s a collective effort. You need to have that pressure high up the pitch. It’s not a necessity to have one solely in there to win the ball.”

Iheanacho?

“You saw last week that when you have the profiles you want, the effect on his talents. He scored a goal and set up two. The one for Tete was perfectly-weighted. He will drop in, but you need players to go beyond him. He’s been excellent in training as well.”

What learned from playing Spurs?

“You need to make sure the resting defence is in the right positions. We gave away too much from set-pieces. Against a team like Tottenham who are very good when they break out, you have to make sure the team is set up well and slow down the counters. You want to go after the game, but you have to be really careful against Tottenham in that aspect. We scored goals and created more chances. If we can close the game, we have a great chance.”

Oversee rebuild?

“Hopefully, that would be great, getting the chance to do that. We’ve lost important players, but it just feels that progression to come. There are players who are very good. Naturally with players out of contract over this next 18 months. There will be changes. I’d love to see that through. If you bring in new players with new hunger, that will improve the ones you have. Hopefully I’ve shown we can have success.”

Soumare and Evans?

“Bouba looked very good, he probably won’t be ready for the weekend. It will be Manchester United for him. He’s come back quickly. He needs to build back fitness. Jonny, he’s worked well, he’s had a couple of niggles, so we’ll assess him.”

Ricardo?

“He’s looked great, he’ll come into the squad. He played 70 minutes. Him and Ryan Bertrand played. Those two have been out for a long time, they got through the game. He’ll now come into the squad. That’s fantastic news for us.”

Ndidi?

“Ndidi is back in training and hopefully should be fine for the weekend.”

Make-up of midfield?

“In balance, it’s always about balance. All players have to be competitive. You need one controlling the game from behind. You need a running player who can break the lines with and without the ball. Then you need one who can create and score. All three have to run. I always like to have more midfield players. That’s where the game begins. It sets you up. We have choices in there.”

Supporters?

“Two of the three games are at home. The supporters are everything in terms of galvanising the team. You have to inspire the supporters, but last weekend we went behind and the supporters were still there. We want that to be the same at home. We want that intensity and passion. Having that connection is important.”

Hopefully this is a good sign that Iheanacho will be starting more often, now that we have the wing options to play to - and best utilise - his strengths...

So it would appear, we might just have a fully fit squad, for maybe United, but almost certainly Arsenal (barring JJ of coarse!)

No excuses for some points then Brendan.

We would do, because Justin isn’t in the 25 man squad.

and from his comments above, i read into it that he'll stick with Tielemans and KDH instead of Ndidi on his own.

It'll be the same as last week, with a slightly different bench

For all the people who think it's the teams job to get the fans to get behind them
