I still think we'll win this.

 

I'd put Tielemans in, as, although he has been far from his best, I still think he's the best of a very bad bunch that are capable of something creative.

 

Mendy has to start, shouldn't even be debatable.

Southampton are gash, I fancy our individual quality will be enough to get the result, especially if Madders is fit. We've got a team that should be comfortably in top 8 and challenging in an around the top 6. I don't really care what Brendan says, I've already seen them do it.

 

Would be funny if we lost though, the fan base as a whole deserves everything we get this season. I've been past caring about results for too long now.

 

It's mainly just a case of being fascinated by how many excuses can be made for Rodgers and how many he can get away with making.

If Youri scores one with his crutches do you think the ref would disallow it?

“For players, it’s about what their purpose is. I’ll remind them of the sacrifices they made to get to be a footballer. It’s bringing their own purpose to the game.”

 

Southampton?

“They’ve gone back to basics and more experienced players have come in. I watched the Chelsea and Leeds games. When their tails are up, they can be a really good side. We have to run and be prepared for a physical battle.”

 

Both lost in FA Cup?

“It’s always disappointing when you make changes and give opportunities to players, and then seeing opportunities go. If you’re a Premier League team and you’re focused, you expect to go through. Both of us haven’t.”

 

How to see players who are hungriest?

“It’s very easy. It’s physicality in training. Players have told me what they want to achieve in their training, and the easy measure is to see what they do physically. If they’re the last one into training and first one away, their commitment doesn’t match that.”

 

Any other injuries?

“No, there’s nothing new. Ricky got through the game and was all good. No new injuries.”

 

Ricardo?

“He had no after-effects. It was great. He needs more game-time. We’ll see what game-time he gets if we need him.”

 

Maddison?

“He’s a fantastic player. They make others better. Look at any team, like Casemiro at United. It’s no coincidence, he’s a top player. James has grown to that. He’s an influential player. Other people have to step forward and stand up and show their personality. What he shows spreads around the team. He shows courage and accepts responsibility. It’s not just his responsibility.”

 

Big game?

“I don’t want to dress it up that it’s not a big game. The players will know that. We’re in a position we don’t want to be. We’re clear on it. We’re only three points above the line. We have to bring intensity and quality. That gives us a chance to get the points.”

 

New experience being at bottom?

“It’s a position we haven’t felt or been near since I’ve been here. It reflects on our lack of consistency. We should at least be 10 points better off with the games where we’ve lost points. It’s the position we’re in. I believe we’ll be fine, but we’ve got to show it on the pitch. We’ve shown, before the World Cup, that we can play to a high level.”

 

 

Sorry Brendan but how can you sit there and say you have trust in the squad when you've repeatedly said that it isn't good enough, we lack quality, we are complacent and he expected some of them to have moved on by now.

 

If you trust your squad and want contribution from everyone, then don't throw them under the bus and expect them to deliver for you.

They found it quite comfortable beating us at home earlier this season.

i'd put tielemans in too alongside Alan Birchenall.

Exactly. I'm just saying that I don't think our last game against them is much of a guide to how Saturday's game will go.

Not world beaters, but improvements overall. Small incremental changes can make a big overall difference.


Southampton will rightly be targeting this game as one they can win - in fact, one they really must win if they have any aspirations of surviving. But I think they are beatable and that we will beat them,

Is that his first 11 or ours,? Not necessarily the same thing. It could go either way or it might be a draw. Or perhaps the floodlights will fail and it will be abandoned. All bases covered.

Brendan says it isn’t must win, so don’t worry about it, we will take a close 2-1 defeat, in which we show great character attempting to recover from going two goals down to a goalkeeping blunder and a tap in from a wayward back pass.

Yes they have to have boots on so VAR can pick up an offside when they decide to draw a line or not !
