Tommy G Posted 6 April 2023 Posted 6 April 2023 What was his last coaching role? I can’t even remember. He’s better than some options I’ve heard

Popular Post Blue ROI Posted 6 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 6 April 2023 MON is a bit old school and he hung around way too long after the Denmark playoff in 2017. Believe me I know!! On the other hand he did well with us up until that point. He did beat the reigning world cup champions in 2015 don't forget. And he took over well after our youth boom of the late 90s/early 00s had burned out The end of the Trappatoni era wasn't much fun to say the least. There's an argument he might damage his legacy. I don't believe that for a second. Is Alan Shearer at Newcastle remembered for being the man who presided over their relegation or as a club legend. Kenny Dalglish to a lesser extent on his return to Liverpool. I understand the reservations about him completely but he is a very intelligent man and and without another immediate option might be worth a punt. 4 1

Koke Posted 6 April 2023 Posted 6 April 2023 Why not? I look forward to seeing Vestergaard put up front when we're losing.

We used to stand on the chairs at the back, leaning forward with our hands on our knees so we could see, we’d end up about 4 or 5 rows down after a goal. Can still hear the roar now. Can also remember when there was some big crowd surfers in one of the pens, people were climbing on top of them and then everyone under either was pushing them up so it looked like they were bouncing on a trampoline We should put these in the Filbert Street thread. Popular Post Mendi Posted 6 April 2023 Author Popular Post Posted 6 April 2023 (edited) He has accepted this job and now you got rats trying to twist the decision over. I was hoping it would have been confirmed this move. Martin has got his backroom staff lined up and ready to go. I have had only brief updated by the source tonight. Its all showing now that this club is doing things slowly and now u got people at each other throat over things. Edited 6 April 2023 by Mendi 1 1 4
Popular Post One Arm Babba Posted 6 April 2023 Popular Post Posted 6 April 2023 My two pence worth…. if you lived through the MON era and know a bit about him. He was never a tactical genius, but a real man manager. I met Tony Cottee 8 years ago and had a half hour conversation with him about Martin, in his words he said “he’s skill was, he’d make you feel 10ft tall, some days he’d completely blank you, but then when you needed a lift he’d make you feel like the most important person alive” if we are going down the temp route that isn’t going to tactically revolutionize things, but get players up for it again, we could do far worse. 9
foxile5 Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 Is this really going to happen. I doubt it. Anyone who lived through the MoN era won't be clamouring for his return.
evostic Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 He’d put his heart and soul into it. What we need at this stage. MON could do the job for us 1

Sly Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 An O’Neill line up. Iversen Soutar Vestergaard Soyuncu Castagne Barnes Tielemans Ndidi Maddison Iheanacho Vardy 1
aussie-fox Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 I think O'Neil is one of footballs dinosaurs but I'd rather go down with him at the helm than going down with Rafa in charge and being angry because we appointed him in the first place. O'Neil won't tarnish his legacy and he'll still be a God if we get relegated with him as manager. Get him now and allow it to bring the fanbase together. I doubt Pep could change much at the moment with these players 3

MoN era was a magical moment as a football fan for me personally, it was when I was able to go to every match home and away and had an unbelievable journey with O’Neil, i and a lot of fellow old school fans are clamouring for his return even for just a few games to bring back some excitement to the club again. MoN is if nothing else honest and will give everyone I kick up the ass which is what we need right now , some motivation for a few extremely important games. 2
SK3Blue Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 Read it somewhere that he told Robbie Savage that he was the best midfielder at the club after taking him to one side after a bad game. Of course he was alongside the likes of Izzet, Lennon, Parker at the time. 🤣 Savage redoubled his efforts in training and played some of his best Football after being told 🤣 of course Martin was lying.
nnfox Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 I'm coming around to the idea. It's hard to explain, but if we were to be relegated with MON, it would somehow feel like a more caring and gentle relegation. I just don't think I'd be so angry about the situation if some mercenary had come in and failed. Ultimately the same result, but delivered with class.

l444ry Posted 7 April 2023 Posted 7 April 2023 (edited) So anyone over 65 is a Dinosaur now? Rather have a Dinosaur that gets the ball forward earlier with more crosses, shots and goalmouth action than some Pound Shop sprog with coaching qualifications coming out of his backside.
