I have this goal where I want to visit as many countries as I've had years on this earth. 

 

I'm 28 years-old and here is my list so far. For arguments sake, I'm splitting the UK up:

I will be at 55 in a few weeks once I land in Azerbaijan. From your list, Jordan is the one I have not done but want to do most. Vatican City definitely counts. @fuchsntf is the man for this thread.

I didn't include airport transfers on mine. If so I'd include the United Arab Emirates. It doesn't feel right claiming that I visited the country based on a few hours in Dubai airport.

Yeah, I don't count them really if you never left the airport, but with others listing them I thought I'd put them on a side list. 

Wish I'd bought the nesting dolls of Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, Gorbachev and the current bloke while wandering bored around Sheremetyevo, but that would have eaten into the New Japan Pro Wrestling and anime merch budget.

Yep transfers don't count, airports are neutral areas given you haven't gone through the border of the country, therefore you have not been to the country. In a similar spirit there are a few other countries I have set foot in, on a bus stop, p1ss break, for a few hours etc etc that I have not counted.

I get you. When I've shown my list to people in he past and I have considered the UK as one, they have said that I should break it up. 

On a sidenote, Gibraltar is a shithole. It's Northampton with a big rock.

I count 41 countries in 60 years - must do better!

That doesn't include airport transfers in Bangkok & Rio (saw Thai paddy fields & Christ the Redeemer statue from plane window - surely that should count? )

 

Can't be arsed to do a  list but basically....West/South Europe, Morocco, USA, Central America (except El Salvador), Andean countries, Aus/NZ.

 

Rarities:

- Yugoslavia, as it still was when I visited (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia & North Macedonia as now is - I wasn't in Bosnia, Montenegro or Kosovo)

- Belize

- Bolivia

- Andorra

 

Would be curious to visit Liechtenstein - anyone been there?

 

I wonder which countries nobody on FT has visited? North Korea? Somalia? Kiribati or other South Pacific island nations?
