Popular Post Spudulike Posted 15 August 2023 Popular Post Share Posted 15 August 2023 It's bad enough that a group of clubs can collect and stockpile all of the best players from the no so rich clubs. To do the same with academy players is all part of ensuring that no other clubs can compete or challenge their brand. Competitive professional football has always been weighted to those clubs with money but never to this extent. You can only hope that it will eventually eat itself.

That’s why our new strategy is to loan all their players and develop them.

Foxmeister Posted 16 August 2023 Share Posted 16 August 2023 Short of putting an end to loan deals completely it's difficult to see a solution to this.

CrispinLA in Texas Posted 16 August 2023 Share Posted 16 August 2023 Suppose we have to cave into their demands as we got their assistant manager here and a player or two 🙄. Don't think Leicester could say no even through we weren't desperate for 1.2m

There should be a limit to the money you can spend on academy players (as a team, not individually) separate from FFP and fairly low.
Buzzell Posted 16 August 2023 Share Posted 16 August 2023 Why are people surprised about this? Big clubs come sniffing and recruiting all other clubs talents. Been happening for years.

JimJams Posted 16 August 2023 Share Posted 16 August 2023 Out of interest, how did we attain the services of the 'French midfielder' in the first place?
Guest Sideshow Faes Posted 16 August 2023 Share Posted 16 August 2023 No saying he'll get anywhere. Plenty of older lads on the verge of supposed greatness don't, let alone 14yos. Has to go down as a £1.2m win for our academy.

Someone with the same surname is a physiotherapist at the club and played football professionally in this country and ended up playing for Kettering and Harborough Town at the end of his career. Putting two and two together I’d guess it’s his dad and he’s actually a relatively local lad born to a French Cameroonian father.

The grip of oil money is getting tighter with Saudi money distorting the market new ways, messing with FFP in the UK helping clubs where they have interests in. Then there's buy back clauses putting all the risk on the smaller club and a the benefits with the bigger richer club. Add to that the hoovering up of all the younger talent that's clearly happening, we've lost 3 kids this summer alone. The only way to protect the game in a meaningful way would be to have more regulation around some things and one of the easier ones would be more rules around young players.
