The scoreline is brutal, but this is the nature of this style of play, and also part of the development and learning for the team. Liverpool are a high-pressing team that look to force you into mistakes with a counter-press. The style of play we are trying makes you vulnerable to this, they are targetting Winks and Ricardo and getting the ball off them often by swarming them. They have been playing like this, or variations of it since 2016.

 

If we beat their press, it opens up their team and there are tons of spaces in behind. That's where our chances come from. But it's a high-risk game, because if it goes wrong, they get chances too. They have the better players, with more experience and are more clinical.

 

Let's see what the team looks like and plays like when we get to the mid-way point of the season. Honestly it will take at least one whole year to fully adjust to this style of play, and that's with a finalised squad, which we don't have yet.

It’s 2023 and our Director of Football has only just been convinced that it makes sense for our academy and first team to be on the same page. Football-related preparations and contingency planning aren’t exactly our forte.

****ing hell people are fickle we have played decent against a much stronger quality of opposition than we are going to play this season. We had a couple of chances at the start that if we had take we would have been two up. The overreaction to being behind to Liverpool is stupid. There are plenty of positives to take from this including the fact that we actually look like a team that know where each other are.
