Coady signed as solution to long-standing problem diagnosed by club hierarchy

Great leaders allow other leaders to shine.

I want to be wary of criticising Rodgers for absolutely everything but this decline happened under him. He came in as the big "I am" saying how the players constantly had to learn.

But he ripped the leadership qualities out of the squad and replaced them with yes men. There needs to be a balance, of.course. Those who follow rather than lead are just as needed, but with no leaders on the pitch we were rudderless last season.

It's very refreshing to hear a manager saying that he needs stronger characters. Those characters will inevitably challenge him on things, and it's those conversations that lead to hitherto undiscovered solutions.

Communication and collaboration. It's how great teams win things.

Nice to know they were on the ball even if they have been slow in dealing with it.

Even Rodgers kept going on about it and said he was signing players to solve it... obviously none of them were real leaders.

Shame he's not that good.

I agree with this. He will likely be a great addition for this season, but ideally we would have a player in their mid 20's to be the Captain for the club for 5 or so years. If we go up, I think it's likely we sign someone else to start over Coady in the Premier League, so he will be leading from the bench.

Maybe it's more of a coincidence rather than fact, but it seems to me these days that you get fewer natural leaders from the younger age groups. Even star players for England like Saka, Foden and Rashford don't come across as leaders to me. Jude Bellingham is the exception to this, and that's IMO the reason why he has already made it to Real Madrid and already performing for him. Maybe it's because football is more technical these days even at lower levels so we produce players of better quality but lose some of the battle-hardened ones? The current Chelsea team is a good example of this, clearly got talent but they seem horrific at the mental side of the game. You could have said the same about us last season too!

Maybe the plan is for him to transition into a player coach, he seems very buddy buddy with Enzo praising his management and tactics

Honestly wouldn’t keep him if we go up as good as a rate his leadership

I will wait to see see how well he plays before making too many decisions. All promoted  clubs need to upgrade and assuming we get promoted, we will need squad players.

Amazing how many people on here were saying we lacked leadership and we only find out now that the club went "oh yeah".

Fans see it, club realised too late, lunatics running the asylum?

Leaders won't allow Petty cliques either, not if they're good at it either. Harmonise and galvanise the group, Morgan did this very well.

Haha by implication what on earth are you saying?! 🤣

It’s all coming out now isn’t it. It’s so frustrating - we hear the club hierarchy were aware of a lack of leaders and we hear stuff on here about cliques and bullying. The lack of leadership issue was so glaringly obvious. Why wasn’t something done sooner, particularly in the window Kasper left?

Btw is this mention of the ‘club hierarchy’ the review by Rudders and Big Susan? I’m glad they are putting it right now, but it’s almost like no one is being held accountable.

Yet Maddison went straight into Spurs leadership group on arrival and was made one of the vice captains.

I think he does have leadership qualities, just as Evans definitely did. Problem was that their leadership styles became entirely influenced by Rodgers blowing smoke up their backsides for 3 years. I think a different manager would have snapped them out of that and you'd have seen a much more challenging attitude (in a good way).

Chilwell has been captaining Chelsea under a manager who doesn't take any nonsense. So their have clearly been figures who could take on that role but I think the issue stemmed from the culture they were in alongside a large leadership group, made up of similar characters. Kasper and Wes were chalk and cheese in their approach but they complemented each other because they had so much mutual respect.

As for Coady, why isn't he going to be good enough when we go up? He's one of those guys who can slot in seamlessly and he's hardly going to be targeted as a weak leak in the Prem as he's too good a player for that. Sure, he'd never have been a starter for us a couple of years back but if he's surrounded by good players, he'll raise his game. We're not going to be in European contention for a good few years yet so having him as starter for a couple of years and then a squad player is a no brainer.

Is Ben to blame for the poisonous dressing room culture last season?

Conor Coady hints at theory behind Leicester City's double relegation
The former City defender has spoken about his surprise at the club's fall into League One and suggested their managerial appointments may have been a factor in their demise

Former Leicester City defender Conor Coady has hinted that a scattergun approach to managerial appointments may have been a factor in their demise.

City have been relegated two seasons in a row with four different managers unable to get the required results in that time.

Speaking about the club’s fall through the divisions, Coady, who spent the second half of this season on loan at Charlton after being sold by City to Wrexham last summer, said it was unexpected with the players he knows are in the squad.

But he seemed to suggest that the way City have bounced around between “totally different managers from different places” may not have helped the club’s cause.

“I know the frustrations, I got a lot of the frustrations,” he said on the Overlap. “They gave me a lot of the frustrations when I was playing for them.

“It’s a tough one to have an opinion on. Did I see this coming, League One? No. We had the worst season imaginable in the Premier League. I hated every minute of it. It was as hard as it can be. I was feeling it more than anyone on the pitch. But did I see them going into League One? No I didn’t, no with the team they’ve got.

“I know a lot of the players in the dressing room and they take a lot of flak. If you look at where they’ve gone to from Enzo (Maresca). He was unbelievable.

“But then you go from Enzo to a different manager who is the complete opposite end of the spectrum. That’s no disrespect to Steve Cooper, he was a really good manager as well but he was completely different to Enzo.

“Then Steve Cooper leaves and you go to Ruud (van Nistelrooy), then you go to Marti (Cifuentes). It’s just totally different managers from different places.

“For me, I didn’t expect them to go into League One. It’s tough to see.”

City are now weighing up who to appoint for their League One campaign with Gary Rowett not expected to remain in charge of the club following the end of his contract.

He's made a decent career for himself on the back of hiding behind Boly and Saiss for 3 or 4 years. No surprise he was shipped out the year after those 2 left.

Remember Kids...   Enzo signed this pile of shit

Well before we announced Enzo (or Coady, for that matter), I was told that we had a finished a laughable deal with Coady.

That’s not to say Enzo didn’t bless the signing but I do believe he was a player targeted by those already at the club, and that we were signing Coady with or without Enzo.

He was signed to perform at a certain level, which, for whatever the reasons, he didn't. It's so easy for him to try to distance himself from the sh!tshow after leaving, but he was, as a so-called leader, a fundamental part of it. We, the fans, are stuck with the consequences.
