I would be starting Vards against these, genuinely feel he will be bang up for this. playing against the manager who gave him a chance and playing against a couple of his old friends.

I get the feeling Enzo prefers to rotate players, rather than drop them, very much in the Pep style. It may look the same as dropping them, but the psychology that you are part of a squad, rather than a team, I think is very clever and hopefully keeps everyone on board. The squad do look happy at present. Perhaps that goes with winning. But there feels a far more togetherness so far this season.

I do at some point we see Mavididi, Daka and Fatawu as a front three. The pace alone will terrify at this level.

You think it’s weird to have a bit of sentimentality for a player like King to score if we win anyway?
 

I remember Steve Claridge scoring for Millwall in a game we otherwise won 4-1 and the whole ground applauded when it was announced Claridge scored. It was a great moment.

 

Of course we want to win first and foremost, but there’s nothing wrong with wanting to see a player like King or a manager like Pearson doing well. There’s more to supporting a football club than just obsessively caring about winning by as big a margin as possible and nothing else, having a connection with certain players or managers is a big part of the community and social aspect of the game.

Good article in the athletic today regarding this. He specifically states it's a squad to be drawn upon

"I already told them that when you want to achieve something important, you need 20 players. Some of them are not going to play every game but the season is so long that for sure we’re going to use them".

Interestingly, he isn't announcing the team to the squad until a few hours before the match to keep them on their toes. 

 

First and foremost I want us to win but, have absolutely no issue with appreciation of former managers and players. And, if there is ever a former player who deserves our appreciation, it's King.

Although, I thought Nige was going to be absent from the match due to back surgery?

Honestly think we should make this Andy Kings testimonial. Play it at a fairly relaxed pace, let him score a penalty and send him home with the gate receipts in cash, stuffed into a Fox Leisure backpack. He deserves nothing less!
