Last season there was much debate/ criticism over contract lengths/ salary levels. Tielemans, Vesty, Ward, Castagne, Evans, Soyuncu to name but a few, even Vards and Wilf copped it,

So we have a couple of potentially fantastic young wingers….Abdul, 19, fantastic work rate marvellous attitude, and Mavididi, equally as good for different reasons….in time they will run down existing deals, leaving the club with exactly the same decisions to make, either extend, pay more or both….obviously you can replace but that takes time, and based on Tete,Under et Al, is hard to get right….so what should our policy be going forward

Well, I dont think there’s cause for concern 2-3 months into their first year. It’s very possible new contracts will be discussed if we get promoted anyway..

Treat them as individual cases.

Do a Chelsea give everyone 20 year deals and hope for the best.

It’s how they cheat FFP! And should be called out more, hopefully it will backfire massively one day.

That rule has been changed now because of how Chelsea operated.

Well if it's clear they aren't staying, firstly can we not promote them to Captain, that would be a nice start.

Surely we are working on getting some of these renewed in the background. It’ll be cheaper than spending money on players, if we can convince some of this years contract expiries to renew.

So Akgun and Fatawu should be triggered for full on signings I’d imagine. If we can re-sign Doyle, that would be a bonus.

I could see us trying to tempt Vestergaard, Vardy and Ndidi to potentially re-new.

Then Ward and Iversen move into the last years of contracts.

We need to secure promotion then we'll look to renew these contracts. In case we collapse and it doesn't happen we can't afford some of these players for another season.

Rudkin has been busy negotiating new deals for Ward and Iversen. That's why we didn't have time to sign any players in January.

You’d also think right now is the perfect time to be discussing his personal situation.

He might well be the only one of the out of contract players we actually try to renew.

I guess it depends what role we see for Vardy and Vestergaard.

That's the key point and why nothing will happen until the summer. Fail to go up and we could let them all go.

I'm assuming that if we do go up that we'd be looking to renew Ndidi. Possibly also Jannik and Vardy (also assuming that Fatawu is made permanent). I'm not so worried about the others, although Marc A should be treated with the respect he deserves when he does go

Letting all those leave come June the 30th is a huge blessing in disguise yes great servants but my god we would save millions and millions alone.

I'd be doing my upmost to keep Ndidi as he is the only one we could make money from

Yup. I was happy to see Ndidi leave in the summer and we keep Nacho...

6 months later. Keep Ndidi at all costs and drive Nacho to Forest! :teehee:

Yes. If we do get promoted and Wilf stays, it will be interesting to see what his role will be next season.

It's a great credit to both Enzo and Wilf that he's been converted from a defensive midfielder to a good Championship-level attacking midfielder so quickly.

But playing that role in the PL would be another step up - would he manage it?

Alternatively, might Wilf revert to his more defensive role in the PL - at least in matches against the better teams?

While I assume we'd still play a possession-based game in the PL, we'd also need to defend and play without the ball more against the better teams......so maybe his role would vary depending on the opposition? :dunno:

We are going to have to try and resign a few.

We have 6 player out of contact, we have 3 on loan (2 with a obligation to buy).

That's 9 players out of a squad ot 25, I can't see us having the funds to sign 9.

So I think we will look to renew 2 or 3, I'd guess at Ndidi, Vardy and Vesterguard being the ones we want to renew.

It might not just be a choice between signing 9 new players and renewing contracts of existing 1st teamers.

We also have academy players pushing for a squad place, so maybe 2-3 of them will be promoted into the squad next season?

Nelson as back-up centre back looks a distinct possibility, doesn't it? Alves and Braybrooke were on the verge of a breakthrough before injury, while Raikhy and Cover just appeared in the FAC....

I'm sure Enzo wouldn't want to include all 5 of them in a PL 1st team squad, but maybe 2-3, with perhaps 4-5 signings and a couple of contract renewals (including Ndidi, I hope)?

Fatawa isn't our player for starters

They can be named in the squad, but won’t take up a squad place unless over 21. A good way of making sure we have back up

This is true - but my problem, moving forward with him, is that he isn't and never will be a natural attacking player, and is unlikely to develop all the skills needed to play as a number 8 - crucially - at PL level.

As good as he's played his shooting isn't reliable enough and his passing, though improved, isn't as slick as it will need to be at that level.

The real question is, do we resign him to play a position he can play, on, i suspect, a relatively high wage, not knowing whether he'll be good enough  - or do we bring in a cheaper, younger player who is a  natural in the position.  Or do we focus our resources and time on developing someone like yunus, mcateer or alves.

I just feel, for that position, there must be better, cheaper alternatives. I know he's a legend, but maybe it's time to move on

I don't think Ndidi will sign an extension. If he was going to it would have happened already. He would be wise to do so, otherwise he will be a sub elsewhere.

Vestergatd will get a new contract and rightly so, crazy as that seems from this time next year.

I year for Vardy as a super-sub.
