Agree he played well overall at Charlton but I still found that he was too casual in closing down opposing players, often allowing them time to shoot or cross under no pressure. This very approach led directly to the 2nd Huddersfield goal in the Cup match.

This might actually be down to him trying to improve his game. He’s been criticized for being rash in a tackle and diving into things. if he wants to be a right back he needs to be more disciplined in and around the box.

Youre danned if you do and damned if you don’t in football. Hard to judge if you need to prepare for a cut and shot or for them to try and take it round you, can’t get it all right.

He didn’t commit a single foul all game.

Cost me a 20-1 bet builder!!

It would be a shame if he completely takes the dirty out of his game. We all love some of his crunching tackles

It would. I'll miss shouting "Break a leg, Hamza!" when he comes on as a sub. How I truly meant that phrase, I'll leave open for discussion. 👀

he was still flying into tackles he just happened to win the ball or at least not concede a foul

Not against Charlton, I was watching him closely with the vested interest… he stood up and jockied his man almost everytime. He was remarkably disciplined

there were a couple on the edge of their box where you saw the old snap, perhaps he's just learned not to do it in our half now

He has to impress a new manager now just like everyone else so we will see how things go, think he has  some ability but seems to drop off when he has a run of games, never been able to seal a first team place nor permanent move away, seems happy just being a squad player which is fine, thats my take anyway.

I thought Hamza was our best outfield player. You could see him reacting and aware of the fans when he was down our end and leading the team. Unlike against Huddersfield he pressed his winger and closed the space much quicker.

Some solid defending going on tonight by Hamza, was a bit of a dick with his silly tackle and subsequent yellow card. but apart from that is good captain material.

Hopefully we're finally getting the Hamza we thought we'd get when he first broke into the team. Had some ups and downs and has always seemed a limited player but can't fault him so far this season. His fight and commitment are top class and he's always willing to get stuck into the opposition and we need that in the championship. Selling Justin for £10m and having Hamza as our starting rb seems like a great decision so far.

Did a job on Gray. Knew his game inside out. Telling Abdul that he only wanted to come inside every time he got the ball. Captains performance again :appl:

He reminds me of Simpson in the RB role. He plays the position more traditionally and therefore is rarely seen out of position. He has the talent to play the ball forward as well.

Justin was always caught out of position, and I thought it was telling that when Ricky came on so did Faas to help cover the space he leaves when he goes forward. The system changed when he was introduced.

I think Hamza and Thomas really suit the system we've played in the last two games where the fullbacks sit deeper to allow the wingers the licence to thrill. The midfield two are then expected to cover the space between and a CB can also step forward out of the line to break up play.

He's going to be a very, very important player for us this season.

I think people still tend to judge him (particularly at RB) by our standards a few years ago- he probably wasn't quite good enough against the best teams in the country but he's bloody good at this level. Seems to have developed into a real leader too, which can only be a good thing for the youngsters.
